The story of Akuma Okami

Where would the story for this young soul take place? In the beginning of course! Our main character is Akuma Okami, who is a hybrid of a wolf and a wyvern. His mother was a wolf, so was his father. Though strangely enough, the young wolf cub was born with wings; the wings of a wyvern. His father had realized that his son was born with wings of a dragon. With this realization, he was quite upset with the mother. Everything seemed to be normal for Akuma… But things didn’t stay that way, as they began to fall apart shortly after he was born.
When Akuma was born, his mother and father took him back to their home. Each day, little Akuma would be set inside his crib with a special fence over it so that the cub would not fly out. His parents loved him with all of their hearts, but one of the hearts had a part inside of it that was burning with hatred. The one whose heart boiled with anger was of the fathers. For the day Akuma was born, his father had seen the wings on his son. The father talked to his wife, and asked why their cub had these wings. The father had neither gene, nor trait, in his side of the family that was part wyvern, nor the mother. Both of the parents were bewildered at this. The mother did not recall anything that would have lead to this happening. The father made some crude remark as to how their son was a demon. This gave the father the idea, to name his son Akuma. Which stands for demon in Japanese. The mother had thought it was a beautiful name for their son, little did she know that she was calling her son demon.
Akuma grew up like most cubs, but was not allowed to have some things normal children would enjoy. Akuma was not allowed to go outside by himself; he had to wear a leash that either his mother or father would put around his neck to make sure that he wouldn’t fly away. As a kid, Akuma thought it was fun. But the parents hated the thought of walking around in public with a collar around their child’s neck. They only did it for his safety. Most of all was how when he was in his crib, no, it was more of a cage. His parents had to build a fence over the top of the crib, so little Akuma would not fly out. Even though (or ‘Despite how’) they tried to prevent this from happening, Akuma managed to escape a few times.
His parents felt as if they were not raising Akuma the way that good parents should have. His father, most of all, was the one who dreaded the thought of his son having wings. Knowing his son had part wyvern in him made his blood boil. The reason for the father’s hatred of wyverns was because back when he was a child, his family had a fond hatred for wyverns. As a cub, wyverns were one of the monsters that raided villages. A few of the father’s loved ones were captured by the awful monsters, and were never seen again. Every day the father would remember these dreaded thoughts, he would go out to drink, and come back very late. In the middle of the nights he would come home and storm into the house, a bit drunker than the night before. Every night this happened, he woke little Akuma. The father would stumble into his bedroom, and start a fight with his wife. Akuma would hear this every time it happened. Though he was a cub, he had a good understanding of when someone was screaming that they were mad. Akuma heard his parents fighting every night, and he knew it was over the same issue. Why did their son have wings? The mother would try and calmly handle the situation, but the father always provoked her. Saying, “you slept with one of the ugly fucking monsters didn’t you?!”
The mother always said nothing, but she told her husband to leave and come back when he was stable enough to be around. The father would get more upset, but he left in the waking of his arrival. Akuma had, every night, heard the fights go on and on, and get worse each day the father come home drunk, felt tears swell in his eyes; he never sobbed, but only let the warm tears of sadness drip down his cheeks. Akuma was not the only one who cried…whenever the parents would fight and the father left, Akuma could hear his mother’s soft sobs from within the room of which they slept. Akuma wanted desperately to break free of his cage, and comfort his mother…but with each attempt, he failed…he gave up and sat down on his diapered bottom to cry the same tears of sorrow that he knew his mother had been crying.
The next day, everything seemed to go back to normal. Akuma seen his father, he was as happy and joyful as ever before. His mother was even brighter and happier than day before. Akuma had a brilliant time with his parents. They took him to the park for the first time. His mother packed his favorite sandwich, peanut butter and jelly. That day, Akuma remembered the bright warm sun shining on his mothers face. Making her look as cheerful and happy as she ever was. Her light blue bangs were out of her eyes, showing her bright green eyes. His father nuzzled under his mother’s chin, they both had the happiest look on their faces, but not has happy as they had looked when Akuma was born. His father happily picked Akuma up, and set him down between his mother and father. His parents leaned against the tree behind them, the cool shade covering the happy family together; the cool summer breeze blowing through the tree, making the leaves play a song that Akuma would never forget. Akuma nestled happily between them. His mother’s light blue left arm, with its black paw pad, rested lightly on Akumas small tummy. His father’s paw rested on his wife’s paw. Akuma knew this was the happiest, most memorable day of his life. The cool breeze, the snug feeling he felt between his parents, made him the happiest cub he could have ever been.
When they returned home, Akuma’s father’s happy expression from the when they were outside seemed to have faded away, and was replaced now with an expressionless look. Akuma looked up at his father from within his crib. He pawed at the bars of his crib, trying to get his father’s attention. Before looking back, his father grabbed his keys and looked back at his son, giving him the darkest, coldest look Akuma ever seen. He knew he’d seen dark looks from other kids, but his own father… it sent chills down his back, making his wings flutter out. Then his father shook his head and left without a word.
Akuma’s mother set him down in his crib. Akuma whined as his mother set him down on his diapered bottom, looking up at her with teary eyes. She looked down at him, and tilted her head, “what’s wrong hunny?” Akuma spoke his first 2 words, with such a quiet, sad tone, “da da…” he then looked to the door. Akuma’s mother sighed softly, picking up Akuma lightly and holding him in her arms, her right arm under his diapered bottom. Looking Akuma in the eyes, speaking with a soft, comforting tone, she said “I’m not sure when daddy will be home Akuma, but don’t worry your little head, sweetie…” she smiled the best she could, kissing Akuma on the forehead, then giving him Eskimo kisses with her blue nose. “Daddy will be home in the morning, and we will go to the park again and sit by the tree, I promise you, sweetie…” she gave him one last kiss on the lips and then set him down in the crib, not closing the top gate. “If you want mommy to bring you to her bed in the middle of the night, let me know, sweetie.” She smiled softly at Akuma, walking to the side of his bed, and turning on his nightlight. It made a silhouette of a wolf, howling up at the moon with a blue background. She walked to her door, opened it, and closed it half way. Leaving the door ajar, she poked her head through the small crack, “good night, sweetie, mommy loves you,” Akuma could hear the sad tone in her voice, he rubbed his eyes with his paws and yawned quietly as he laid his head down softly on the soft plush pillow. Slowly putting his thumb in his mouth he sucked on it lightly as he started to fall asleep. Trying to leave happy thoughts in his mind before he fell asleep, he thought of going to the park again and sitting under the tree with the breeze blowing through his soft cub fur, it gave him the bit of happy feeling he needed to fall asleep.
During his sleep, Akuma had his first quiet night. No fighting, no mother crying, no yelling…it was perfect. And suddenly, Akuma was whisked away to the park. Sitting under the tree with his parents again, both their paws rested peacefully on his tummy. He sighed, feeling happy and relaxed yet again. But something was…different about the area. Akuma felt the soft breeze blowing through his young soft fur. Yet, he did not hear the gentle sound of the wind rustling the leaves in the tree above him. He still smiled, looking up at his mother, but to his surprise, instead of seeing the soft, facial completion of his loving mother…he seen tears pouring from her eyes…Akuma pawed at her arm lightly, speaking quietly, “m-mama?” Akuma looked down at his mother’s paw, he seen that her paw was not on his father’s. And only her paw lay on Akuma’s tummy. He looked over at his father, looking up at him he said, “dada-“ but stopped abruptly as his gaze met his fathers. What Akuma seen, sent him pushing away from his father, his father’s soft blue eyes were blood shot, the same look on his father’s face when he left the house…the dark, cold stare he gave his son before he left the house. Akuma started to feel tears swell up in his eyes. Akuma suddenly awoke back in his room, the night light of the wolf howling at the moon the only source of light in his room.
Akuma sat up in his crib, scanning his room. His ears perked up as he heard the front door open. He stood up on his hind paws wondering who it was, as he thought it was his father. The door slammed behind his father as he stumbled lazily into the house, almost falling over, but catching himself on the kitchen table. Akuma watched him, wishing his father wouldn’t do such a thing to upset his mother. Akuma lightly pawed at the smooth wood fence around his crib, looking at his father, “d-dada?” he said quietly. His father’s head suddenly turned to Akuma, standing by the edge of the crib. His father stumbled into Akuma’s room, looking down at him with a drunken smile on his face. “Hey buddy!” *hic* “what are you doing up?” He asked in a tone that questioned if Akuma should have even gotten his father’s attention. Akuma could clearly smell the horrid alcohol on his father’s breath, but yet Akuma gave his father a look of sadness. His father stared back at him, but not the dark look he seen before at least. Maybe it was a good thing his father was drunk. “What? What’s with the look?” he tilted his head. “Oh I see! You finally realize how miserable we are with your wings huh? You want me to get rid of them finally?” He says with a serious but still drunken tone. Akuma looked up at his father still, starting to feel tears swell up in his eyes again. His father smiled down at him as he pulled a pocket knife out of his back pocket, “Good! Now we can be a real family now!” He said happily as tears started to swell in his eyes. Akuma could not tell if they were tears of joy, sadness, or even a mixture of the both. His father flipped out the shinny pocket knife.
As soon as Akuma’s father grabbed his left wing, his mother opened the door. Stepping into Akuma’s room slowly, rubbing her eyes with her paws. “Rufus what are you doi-!” Akumas mother gasped as she seen her husband holding their cub’s wing and a knife, “Rufus!! What are you doing?! Let go of Akuma!” Akuma tried to pull away from his father’s grip on his wing. His father had tears swelling up in his eyes, holding the knife out and still holding his son’s wing, “I’m making us a family again Andrea! We can be happy again!” Akuma’s father turned back to him, holding his left wing still and getting ready to cut his cub’s wing off. Akuma’s mother quickly leaped at her husband, tackling him down before he made the cut. As she pushed her hostile husband down, he pulled the knife back with him, missing Akumas wing, but cutting the tip of his left ear off. With the thud of both his parents hitting the floor, Akuma suddenly felt a surge of pain overwhelm his body as blood started to drip from his ear then into his black hair. Akuma started to cry as he seen and felt the blood drip from his ear.
His mother quickly got up as she heard her cub cry. As she stood up she kicked her husband in the gut and pushed him away. “Get out of here Rufus!! Don’t come back!!” Her husband stood up weakly, holding his gut he dropped the knife, weakly walking backwards into a table, “B-but Andrea? We were supposed to be happy together!” Tears started to swell in his eyes, “I was going to make us happy!!” Hot tears of pain, anger, and sadness started to trickle down Akuma’s father’s face. “GET OUT!!” She howled back at him, picking up Akuma and holding his ear with her paw; keeping his face turned away from his father. Rufus looked at his wife, tears flowing from his eyes, “So you’d rather prefer HIM over ME?!!” His voice dangerously rising, “FINE!” Without another word he limped out of the house, leaving behind his knife and his keys.
Akuma nuzzled closely to his mother, sobbing, feeling tears fall from his cheeks onto his mothers shoulder. She brought Akuma into the bathroom, kissing her sobbing cub’s cheek, trying her best to comfort him. “You’ll be ok, sweetie… mommy is here, and the bad man is gone now, I won’t let him touch you ever again…” Though she tried her hardest to comfort Akuma, she couldn’t help but cry the same tears that her soon to be ex-husband cried. Her shaking cub lightly pawed at her tears, wiping them away, and she smiled slightly at him. After she had properly cleaned and bandaged Akumas ear, she locked the door, carrying her injured cub on her shoulder. Brining him into her room, she laid him down on the bed. Soon after she crawled into bed next to her shivering cub and wrapped her arms around him softly, hugged him close to her. She sighed and closed her eyes. She shed one tear then whispered in his ear, “I love you, sweetie…I won’t let anyone hurt you…ever again…”
In the morning, Akuma felt his mother’s arm still wrapped around his small body. She held him close to her, her soft fur giving him a pleasant warm feeling that made him snuggle closer to his mother. Smiling lightly as he licked her light blue nose with his little light blue tongue. Akuma wagged his little tail happily and eagerly waited for his mother to wake up. He pawed at her muzzle and yipped happily. The cub’s mother opened her light green eyes slowly, and smiled brightly to see her cub awake in front of her. “Good morning, my little gumdrop” Akuma blushed lightly and licked his mother’s nose again, excited and glowing with happiness.
Shortly after they woke up, Akuma’s mother changed him and made him a delightful breakfast. Although he was a cub, he ate neatly. After he finished his breakfast, his mother cleaned up then picked Akuma up out of his high chair and held him with her arm under his diapered bottom. “Do you still want to go to the park Akuma?” She smiled brightly at her cub, rubbing his little light blue bangs out of his face. Akuma nodded happily and smiled brightly, wagging his tail excitedly. His mother laughed shortly and kissed his cheek. “Hehe, you’re my adorable little cub, Akuma.” She gathered her things and put Akuma in his stroller, pushing the stroller out of the house and closing the door behind her.
When Akuma got back to his warm home, he was quickly met with the cool breeze he felt before. He smiled and stretched his wings out, holding his arms out a little, imagining that he was flying free for the first time. His mother looked down at him and smiled, wheeling the stroller to the park.
***
As his mother picked him up and set him down on the cool grass, she took out a small hand basket and set it down in front of him. She reached into the basket, pulled out Akuma’s sandwich and handed it to him with a bright smile on her face. “I hope you like it, sweetie! Mommy made it just for you” With a soft crinkle Akuma sat on his bottom, taking a small bite off the sandwich and chewing with such enjoyment he didn’t want to finish the sandwich; he wanted to savor every delicious little bite he took. Akuma’s ears perked as he heard someone approaching the tree. Then suddenly a familiar voice was heard through the wind rustling the leaves in the tree. “Andrea…?” As she heard her name, she stood up, looking down at her husband. “Don’t take another step, Rufus” At her demand, he stopped. “Please… let me explain…” He said quietly with a grave look of depression on his face. Akuma heard his mother snarl a shout back at his father. “No! You don’t get to explain anything! I saw exactly what you were trying to do!” Rufus took a step back, looking down at his feet and talking quietly, “I know what I tried doing… I hate myself for it… but please, Andrea…” Akuma heard his father’s sad, quiet tone, which made him want to run to his father and hug him, but his mother prevented anything of the sort. His father started again, “Andrea... I found someone that can explain the reason why… why Akuma has wings…” But his wife was persistent, she didn’t stand down. “You wanted to cut his wings off Rufus,” he could hear the dark tone in her voice as she spoke. “And now, you expect me to believe that someone can give us a reason why Akuma is like this?” She shook her head. “The ONLY way I will believe this is if you show me. And if this person has a reasonable explanation as to why Akuma is like this… you will never come near him again. And if you try, I will report you to the police.” Akuma knew not how his mother spoke so meanly, but yet in a calm voice. Rufus looked up at her, “If… if it does come to that… at least let me talk to my son… one last time…” He looked down again, he could feel tears start to swell up in his eyes, but he fought them back. Akuma’s mother sighed and shook her head, “Fine, but I will be watching you if you try any funny business. If you do, it won’t end pretty.” She growled at Rufus. Akuma was scared of even his mother’s growl, worried as to what was happening. He couldn’t understand what they were saying most of the time, but still kept his good ear acute with what they both were saying. Rufus let out a deep sigh of relief. “I promise I won’t try anything. Will you come to this area when you both are ready?” He asked softly as he pulled out a small slip of paper from his back pocket and started to walk up towards them. The movement made Akuma cringe defensively behind his mom. “Just stop. Leave the paper on the ground. We will think about it.” Akuma’s mother remarked. Rufus lightly set it down on the ground and picked up a small rock to hold it so it would not get carried away by the wind. “Ok, I will wait there for you…” He looked at his son behind his wife’s legs. “See ya buddy…” And with that, Rufus turned and walked away with his paws in his pockets, and his head down. Akuma jumped as he heard his mother’s voice break the silence. “I don’t trust him…one bit” Akuma clenched his mother’s pant leg, nuzzling her leg and whining quietly. The cool breeze seemed to have turned hot, the tension in the air between the mother and father, seemed to have made everything burn around them. Akuma started to feel very hot, and quite nervous. The breeze no longer cool and calm, now it was hot and very heavy.
***
Akuma and his mother arrived back at their home. His mother went into his room, picking up the bloody knife of which cut off her son’s ear. She clenched it hard, anger rushed in her eyes and then tension ran through her whole body. She put the pocket knife in her back pocket, Akuma knew not why she needed such a thing, but he still watched her. His mother began to franticly look around the crib, seeing no sign of blood, or her cub’s ear. Another surge of anger flowed through her body. One part of her wanted to go the location stated on the paper, and kill her husband for what he had done. But she looked at it in the way that if the person that her husband had told her about was right, she wouldn’t have to ever see her husband ever again.
Akuma watched his mother and whined quietly. She turned to her son, and pet his head. “Everything is going to be ok, sweetie, I won’t let anything happen to you, I swear.” She said with a soft, calm voice. Akuma nuzzled his mother’s paws, purring happily and wagging his tail. She then set Akuma back down in the stroller and strapped the belt around his waist. Then she knelt down to her son, “Akuma you should take a nap, mommy will wake you up when we get there” She pulled a small blue blankie out from a bag and covered her cub in it, tucked him in, and put a pacifier in his mouth. She stood up and folded out the sun roof on the stroller, then slowly pushed the stroller outside, looked at the slip of paper and sighed.
***
Andrea looked down at the slip of paper, reading “8236 yon field” Then looked up the street sign that indicated the house was in front of her. The house looked quite clean, with a white front porch and black roof. She pated her back pocket, made sure the knife was in it, before approaching the house. She pulled Akuma up the stairs in the stroller, then set it down on the porch. The door was open, a screen door shut. Andrea was able to smell different incense from within the house. Inside she had seen Rufus talking with an elderly looking feline woman. The woman was wearing a big brown cloak; her hair was long and braided. The elder woman looked to the screen door and smiled as she spoke with a hazy, yet beautiful voice. “Ah! I knew you would come Andrea! Please do come in!” She waved Andrea inside. “You may leave your son outside if you wish; he may not like the smell of the incense.” Andrea looked down at her cub, sleeping soundly in his crib, his paws rested on his chest; she sighed and kissed Akuma’s forehead, then opened the screen door and walked inside.
Shortly after Andrea opened the screen door, Akuma slowly opened his eyes. He looked around not seeing anyone, but he did hear an unfamiliar voice.
“I’m glad you came,” Rufus tried to let out a slight smile, but Andrea ignored him and sat in a chair away from him. The elder lady smiled and looked at Andrea, then to Rufus. “I knew you two would come to me again! I just knew it!” Andrea shot the feline a very confused look and asked, “Umm, excuse me? We were here before?” Rufus also gave the feline the same look. The old crazy feline looked to Rufus, “You especially!” Andrea sighed, “If this is some game you two set up to confuse me, it’s working very well. Now start making some sense or I’m leaving. I don’t want to be around him for much longer.” Andrea motioned to her husband. The feline smiled and shook her head. “No, no! No games at all young Andrea!” the feline grinned and sat back in her big chair. “I’ve been watching you two for quite some time! Even since when you were just children!” She said with a happy tone. Rufus remarked quietly, “Umm, odd.” Andrea nodded. She agreed with what Rufus said. “I don’t recall ever seeing or meeting you when I was young…” Andrea said with a bit of confusion. The elderly black feline looked at Rufus. “Rufus, I’ve known far back that you, and your parents, had a strong hatred for wyverns, how they raided villages and took loved ones from you” Rufus squeezed his paw in a fist, holding it in and simply replied, “What of it?” The feline smiled lightly and held her gaze. “And the day Akuma was born, you very much hated the thought of your only son having been born with wings… you blamed Andrea, and not yourself, for what you have done.” Rufus stood up in his chair and held his anger in, “Why are you saying I should have blamed myself? Are you saying somehow I have the trait of a wyvern in me? And that Akuma was born with the wings because of me?” He took a deep breath, and sat back down in his chair. The feline laughed shortly and shook her head, “No, no! Nothing of the sort… you should blame yourself, for the intense hatred you have grown for them.” Rufus looked back up at her; he could feel his paws start to shake, still holding them in fists. “What are you saying old woman?” He growled lightly. Andrea was sitting intently and listening quietly. “Why, when I looked back on your family and seen that when they had tried to raise you, they tried to teach you to like wyverns. And then when they had been captured by the monsters, you grew a hatred for them. I was hoping that you would have changed how you felt about them, I know now what I should have done.” Rufus felt the rage inside him start to fill up his whole body; he had a pretty good idea of what the old feline was trying to say. Yet she kept going on, “I thought that if when you and Andrea had a cub that it would be the perfect choice to change how you felt about wyverns. So I had made sure that your son was born with wings of a wyvern” Rufus felt as if he was about to lunge out at the feline and rip out her throat, he flowed with anger, though he knew that if he let this lash of anger out on the feline, he would blow his one chance to see his son the last time…
The feline kept speaking, “And as I can see, you haven’t made any progress as to loving your son the right way.” She crossed her arms. Rufus understood now, and stood up; he spoke slowly in a tone that suggested he might burst into tears at any minute, “S-so… I’m the reason why… Akuma was born with wings?” Andrea stood up slowly and put a paw on his shoulder. “I-I’m the reason why… he was born with those flaws…?” Rufus could feel tears of rage and sadness swell up in his soft light blue eyes. Then he looked back at Andrea. “I… I blamed you for all that…” he felt a few tears run down his cheeks. Andrea spoke softly, “its ok Rufus… you didn’t know…” Rufus violently pulled away from his Andrea’s paw with a whine. “I fucking blamed you for everything!!” He started to shout. “I couldn’t get over the fact that my family was killed because of those, those things! And I cursed my own son with my own god damn hatred!!” He could feel more tears as they ran down his cheeks, holding his paws to his eyes he sobbed quietly. For the first time, Akuma heard his father cry, the sound was unbearable to him… his father… crying…
Andrea put her paws on Rufus’s shoulders, trying to comfort him. “You can’t blame yourself for something like that Rufus… no one would be able to get over something that tragic, you ca-“ She was cut off from Rufus yelling, “NO! MY OWN SON! I DID THIS TO HIM!!” Rufus’s voice was weak and raspy from the sobs he was holding back in his throat, and from yelling. Akuma wanted more than anything to break out of the stroller and run to his father, he wanted to hug his father and forgive him for everything…
***
Andrea had tried her best to calm down Rufus; it took about 10 minutes to control his uncontrollable sobs. Rufus sat on the feline’s couch, his paws on his knees, and a blank expression on his face as he tried to hold back his tears. He broke the silence by asking, “C-can I please… see Akuma… one last time…” He asked in a toneless voice, directing his question to Andrea. Andrea nodded and rubbed his back, “Of course Rufus… I trust you will say the right thing…” After she finished speaking, Rufus stood up slowly and walked to the screen door. He opened it, stepped outside and closed the screen door behind him, then found the stroller of which his beloved son lay in. Akuma looked up at his father; he could see the worn look from crying on his father’s face. Rufus kneeled down to eye level with Akuma and tried his best to not frown, a mixed look of sadness and happiness on his face. “H-hey buddy,” He still tried his best to not frown, he unbuckled Akuma from the stroller, slowly lifted his son up, and held him in his arms. “I’m sorry for everything that I’ve done to you… you know daddy loves you… right Akuma?” He pulled back from the hug he gave his son and looked at his son’s confused, sad face. Akuma seen tears running down his father’s cheeks, he lightly pawed at them, then whined as he started to tear up to and whimper. Rufus gave his son a weak smile, and put a finger to his son’s mouth. “Don’t cry buddy… everything will be ok, you’ll be with mommy… and daddy will be gone…” Rufus said quietly with a slight tremble in his voice. Akuma knew what his father was saying, but he could not make out the words he wanted to say, and he knew this would be the last time he would see his father, the only words that fell from Akumas soft, quiet lips, were, “I, wuv you dada…” Akuma then hugged his father the hardest he could… he felt tears swell up in his eyes again, but he tried his best to hold them in. Rufus’s best wasn’t good enough to hold his happy look, he suddenly started to cry, he held his son close; his son’s head in his paw and not wanting this moment to end...Rufus held Akuma closer and whispered softly into his good ear, “I love you… my little Tenshi…” Rufus slowly set Akuma down, petting his son’s head. He tried to smile again; he waved to Akuma and turned around started to walk away. Akuma sniffled, feeling sobs rising in his throat, he felt a tear fall from his cheek, and he slowly stretched out his wings, flapping them slowly, and flew towards his father. He landed on the back of his father and hugged his father tight; one word fell from Akumas lips, “No...” He started to cry as he held his father one last time. Rufus shook with sadness and anger of having to leave. He pulled Akuma to the front of him to give him one last, big hug.
Andrea watched from the screen window, feeling tears run down her cheeks, she did not sob, she just cried. The feline woman watched from the window of her room, she slowly shook her head and turned around to close the shades.
Rufus set his son down and gave him a brighter look, “Don’t worry buddy… we will see each other very soon… I promise…” Rufus turned one last time and walked off without looking back at the small house… or his son.
Andrea walked outside to her son and sat on his bottom. He watched as his father left, without looking back. Andrea picked Akuma up and held him in her arms and began slowly walking back to the house. His mother looked inside the screen door one last time and said, “Thank you for your time miss…?” She tilted her head. The black feline smiled and looked back at Andrea, “Rasha,” Andrea smiled lightly, “Thank you for clarifying things, Rasha,” She put her tired cub back in his stroller, wiped the tears off his cheeks. Andrea tucked her cub in the blanket again and walked back home.
***
It had taken Andrea longer to get home then it had taken her to get to the little house, an hour had passed, yet Akuma slept soundly in his stroller, whining at times, and rolling around. Andrea sighed as she arrived at the front door, the long day was about to be over. Akuma slowly rubbed his eyes with his paws as he seen the front door. Andrea had noticed something was on the door. She walked to the side of the stroller and picked off the note left on the door and read it out loud.
To my Dear, sweet Andrea…
I’m sorry if left without saying goodbye…I couldn’t stand to see how much pain I’ve caused you and little Akuma…
I’m sorry… sorry for everything that I put our son through…
Please give Akuma the life a child his age deserves… not the way we treated him…
I want you both to live happy lives, and please, most of all, Andrea…don’t stop living…
These are my last words to you, I hope that you understand, that…I never meant to hurt either of you…I love you both so much…
I truly do…
Your, ex-husband, and ex-father…
Rufus Okami
Andrea felt hot tears of sadness dribble down her face… she held her paw to her eyes so Akuma couldn’t see. As she wiped the tears away from her eyes, she seen on the back there was something written…
P.S
I just wanted to see both your smiling faces… this one… last… time…
Andrea felt a bit nervous, knowing that her husband was probably inside, sitting on the couch, waiting for the door to open so he could embrace them, one last time. Andrea slowly pushed open the door and wheeled the stroller inside. To her surprise, she did not find Rufus sitting on the couch, her house was empty. But she found one thing off… her door to her room… was left ajar. Inside her room she saw a foot paw on the end of her bed. She slowly picked up Akuma and held him close. She slowly walked to her door and saw the foot paw turn into a leg, someone was lying on her bed. Was it Rufus? She hoped so…
Akuma was also looking inside the door, he watched her nervously as his mom slowly opened the door, the body, they both seen, was of Rufus’s. He was sleeping soundly on her bed with the light off; the only light shining through the room was of the moon, which shone through the window. Andrea sighed and placed her cub down at the end of the bed, walked up to her husband, and watched him as he slept soundly. His paws covered up his chest; she shook her head slightly and sighed, turning on the light by the left side of the bed. “Come on Rufus, get u-!” Andrea stopped talking so abruptly that Akuma looked over at her, he could see a look of horror on his mother’s face, he tilted his head and looked at her. Andrea slowly reached for Rufus’s paws covering his chest, pulling them away, revealing a knife, dug into Rufus’s heart… the knife looked exactly the same as the one he cut Akuma’s ear with. But how? Andrea reached in her back pocket, only to find the knife is gone. How could she have lost it? Akuma crawled over the side of his father and pawed lightly at his cheek, “dada?” Akuma whimpered as his father did not respond; the light from the lamp was shinning on his father’s face, showing a bit of blood dripping from his mouth. Akuma quickly pulled back and looked at his father’s face, then down to his chest. He saw how his black arms and light blue paw pads had crimson blood on them. Akuma started to push on his father’s side as he whined and felt tears swell up in his eyes and start to dribble down his face. His father’s body felt cold, his fur still. Andrea picked up Akuma, feeling tears drip down her cheeks as she walked out of the house, Akuma fought his mother; he wanted to break free of her grasp and fly to his father… Andrea tried her best to calm her son, she held his head to her shoulder as he sobbed and pat his back lightly, “Shh… don’t cry, Akuma… don’t cry…” Although his mothers quivering, sad voice told him not to, he held his head in her shoulder, cried heavily, and held her shoulder tight.
***
At the funeral, Akuma felt a cold feeling inside him as he watched his father’s coffin get lowered into the cold dark ground…
After you may be wondering? Akuma grew up, like a normal child should, just like his father had said in his last note.
In school, kids wouldn’t talk to him. Some were scared of him because of him being part wyvern, some didn’t talk to him because they just didn’t know what to say to him. But most kids talked about his father’s death behind his back. When he would walk past other kids in the halls, even outside of school, they would stop talking and watch him walk away, and not look back. Just like his father did to him. Akuma had caught one kid talking about his father behind is back, and it was not a pretty site. Akuma was suspended, for threatening to stab him in the heart and watch the color drain from his eyes.
Akumas mother knew he did not mean to act the way he did to other kids. Like she said, some people can’t get over things that were so big in their lives, when they are suddenly taken away from them without saying goodbye. Akuma and his mother still lived in the same house, when Akuma grew up to be a teenager, he remembered what his father called him “My little Tenshi…” He looked up the word Tenshi in the dictionary, only to find that the word meant angel in Japanese. Akuma walked home that day, and cried…
