uhmmm, i do hope you'll forgive me, but...your kinda mixing corpse candles with will o' wisps.. corpse candles are red lights believed to mark the sight of a death, often beleived to be the stagnate soul of the departed...will o' wisp which is irish pronunciation for will of the wisp...like jack of the lantern, this phenomena is largely attributed to methane clouds which have a tendency to luminess or even catch fire, and less often, to fire flys...they are said to be malicious entities which if followed will guide you to your death, but are usually described as a Faerie as appose to a spirit..Fae are almost always bipolar, they are either very positive, or very negative..
there are also alternate stories that will o wisp is actually a magic spell used by theives and if you follow the right one it will lead you to their treasure, but the wrong one, to a painful death..riiiiight..anyway, typically a good idea to not follow ANYTHING that isnt alive and thinks for its self..
