An article about the first recorded solar flare.
I subscribe to a newspaper called Old News (http://www.oldnewspublishing.com/), which is like a regular newspaper, only it reports on past events. Perfect for a History-phile like me. :3 I decided to type up the stories for my fellow historians to enjoy.

If your interested, the NSO (National Solar Observatory) is located on Sacramento Peak it is the eown of Sunspot in New Mexico. It has a number of websites. I once had the chance to be there for a job interview, quite a fascinating place. The main telescope's reflector is a pool of mercury, Ican't remember how big it was but wasn't small nor shallow.
This is amazing stuff! I hope if another "Carrington event" happens, the electronic infrastructure can survive. Considering the scope of the event back then on telegraph systems, it is quite worrisome.
One thing I'm fairly certain is old tube type electronic equipment should have a good chance of surviving!
Thank you for sharing this stuff!
