Getting back to my "roots", so to speak, of six days ago, I decided this time to do another portrait. I've still been discouraged at my inability to reach that original height.
I think I'm a lot happier now. =^_^=
2B, HB and 2H pencils.

Thank you.
I'm trying to work on the shades, actually. There's a lot to keep an eye on while working on this stuff, so occasionally I get a little overwhelmed. I'm sure I'll get it, though.
My target right now is a month's worth of 'yotes. Counting ones I don't feel are good enough to post here, I want to draw 31, one a day. I'm up to six.

Gentle, I'm trying to be. Although I do get a little impatient with large areas. I think I did do a couple of things with this one right, though. I'm starting to shade first, then add texture onto that with a harder pencil. My fur outlines seem to be improving, as is the general sense of shape. And honestly, I'm really proud of how the ears and whiskers came out. I'm doing more with rough outlines first, and general outlines for the overall movement of the image, which made things much easier.
That said, there are huge areas I need to improve. Shading, as you said. Proportion, I still need a little work, as I made the muzzle too long. Other more minor issues as well. Some of that is simply practice, training my eye and hand. Others, like the shading you mentioned, it's good to have some technical advice.
I'm considering once I get the hang of pencils a bit better maybe experimenting with conte sticks, or perhaps something like a chalk pastel.
