I tried to come up with a story vignette for this but it all came out bland. Sorry kids.

So here is Kryst with Finnegan, the requisitions officer. He signs out guns, body armor, ammo, and relics to the officers. He also helps store evidence before it's moved to warehouse storage. He likes his job but has been at it for so long that he's gotten detached about relics, often forgetting that the bits of bone he hands off used to be people he saw and interacted with every day.

Finnegan is an albino rat. The goggles are to protect his sensitive eyes from the light. They're transition lenses and darken in bright light. There are more albinos in the population than we're used to, although bad eyesight and sensitive skin are the only issues most of them have. He has his sense of smell and a natural spatial awareness to make up for it.

Finn's biggest problem is that he wants to be friends with Kryst. This is not an unusual thing as rats in this world are extremely social creatures. They often live in very close-knit family groups and inhabit the same large house or the same apartment building. Some of them even have self-sustaining communes in the country. They also have very close groups of friends that they will do things with. Unfortunately Kryst, despite being a rat, is the exception to the rule. Try as he might, little Finn just constantly gets the brushoff from him. Kryst isn't rude, but his relationship with Finn will never extend beyond that of a co-worker.

The little bit of bone is Kryst's new relic. It's more powerful and newer than his old one. As his caseload gets more complicated and he's trusted with more important jobs, he's given the resources to handle them a bit better. Kryst looks annoyed because Finn is swinging it like a toy when it's a piece of someone Kryst served with, an officer named Bennet who had pulled someone over for speeding. When he went to speak to the driver he was shot dead before the driver turned the gun on himself.

Poor Finn.
