This poem was inspired by a conversation I had with
at AC when I was telling her about how I got into birdwatching. When I next sat down with a pencil and paper, it just started coming out and I've been working on it here and there since.
Three cool things about northern harriers:
1. They fly really low when hunting for fish and can get really close to you.
2. They're the only raptors who have sexually dimorphic plumage, so you can easily sex them.
3. Did I mention it's really cool when they glide right by you? A female did this to me last time I was hiking in the marshlands of Assateague.
(critique welcome)
(that's a turkey vulture in the icon. photo by me.)
