Still really proud of this piece in particular, and it remains a personal favorite even now.
This scene is something I started to figure out forest painting (I got inspired after watching another cool illustration video), and I think I learned a lot from it in hindsight. Definitely a step up from what I'd been doing prior, and a big boost in my artistic confidence.
The little baby there is actually my personal character Toby, a carnivorous unicorn doppelganger or 'falsicorn', with her parents: Emery and Delilah. I had a lot of fun on this silly self indulgence-- and it also turned out to be a convenient excuse for illustrating the species' lesser recessive horn type, whose spiral can 'unwind' into three prehensile, fanged tentacles instead of a hinged pincer mouth.
Falsicorns are a species I came up with about a year and a half ago during some Design Foundations class I wasn't paying much attention to, and I still think they're the best thing I got from my time the program. I'll no doubt be posting more work and information concerning them in the future, because they're kind of my babies, and I love them dearly.
Enjoy!

Well, in my headcanon they're actually the beast that gave rise to unicorn myths, and were attracted to young maidens because... well, they historically enjoyed hunting and devouring them. I'm not actually sure how they'd get along with a more 'true' passive unicorn, but they are predators who'll eat anything they can catch/take down (barring certain factions who find moral upset in killing fellow sentients and stick to 'lesser' prey), so I imagine it might not be a very friendly encounter.
