so on one of my various walks i was taking a bunch of photos of flowers and saw something weird and white on one.

i zoomed in and oh shit, it's a flower crab spider eating some kind of bee!

lucky (pretty?) action shot.

and if you are too much of a xenophobe to see any beauty in this, man, you're dragging our entire species down.

right? :O apparently this kind of spider is really common all over the US, and can prettymuch paint itself yellow to hunt on yellow flowers.

nah flowers are their natural hunting habitat :o if one ever got inside it'd be cause it rode in on some picked flowers

they apparently live all over north america! but because they've got amazing natural camo, and aren't very large, it's easy to miss them.

I've never seen a crab spider like that. Where I'm at, we get them from lime-green to highlighter yellow, with everything in between. Maybe a purple one once, but never white with a pink streak like that.

Well I saw mine in Maine D: on a plant that looked like her! (I was horrified when one of the buds moved) And I'm in FL now so I hope she's not in my room O_O

Heh---

I looked at just the thumbnail and the title and I thought "Dang! Off-the-shelf cameras are getting awfully good if it can freeze the wingbeat of a bee!" Still, that is impressive for a phone.

I thought the "nomnom" part was about the flower nectar.

actually it's high fructose sugars they are finding are problematic for bees! it acts on bees much like alcohol on humans. they can't find their way home to their hives.
