Nothing quite gets your attention like a car streaking by in a shower of sparks as a security guard. The people in this car went over a mile with no tire or rim on the back of there car then parked and acted as if nothing was wrong. I'm still thinking wtf. There weren't in a car chase or anything but they sure acted like it! BTW they were missing pegs and drum for the break by the time they stopped. Even the cops couldn't get them to say what had happened to the tire.

What were they on or how drunk were they? I don't think it looks like a drum brake. It look like a disk brake by now, and I think I see a brake caliper on the top of the brake.
My referance is form a Haynes book and some experance with replaceing the brake pads and shoes on my blazer.

if I could make my capital letters bigger I would just WOW...
They lost the whole rotor and bearing assembly. More than likely, that whole control arm and strut is ruined as well. With that being a GM model they might be lucky if they didn't ruin the frame if they drove HALF as far as you estimate!
I've seen this happen only once before to an old lady who's tire came off in the middle of the highway. The rear rotor dug into the asphalt for maybe 2 or 300 yards and the car caught fire.
