Those fuckers always bite me when I'm swimming.

When you're swimming? I assume that's after you get out of the water, the last thing we need are torpedo horseflies

Believe it or not, the ones around my place stay attached to you for a few seconds if you submerge and try to get rid of them.
Shit's crazy.

.... Okay, I'm pretty confident that they're probably demons disguised as flies. I mean wow, that's genuinely quite unnerving that they try to stay attached to you once you go underwater.

Florida is a pretty crazy place.

Never been to florida, have to say I'd love to go to America. Seems such a cool place ^_^

I remember going camping a couple years back, and after it was done raining, we got attacked by a swarm of them.

And these weren't little itty-bitty ones, they were larger than quarters, and black as all hell ;-;

That sounds a little bit more like a biblical plague than a camping trip, lol. They are amazingly nasty O_O

You could hear them flying, and hitting the tarp over our heads.

They were big enough that you could cut off their heads with an axe, accurately >>;

Did they have a life-bar as well? They sound like hell. I can put up with midges and gnats and things, but damn... That sounds unbearable

If you've ever played Sonic Heroes, it was kind of like fighting the Egg Emperor >>

At first I thought I was gonna have time to catch the photo and quickly flick it off before it started biting... O_O What a time for the focus to take so long to get right. lol, definately worth a good flick. I can only hope some spider makes a meal of it.

I think it's only the females that bite, but I'm not sure.

I was bitten by one a couple of years ago. The bite got infected pretty much immediately, my hand balooned up to at least twice its normal volume, I couldn't use it until the swelling went down and it required a course of antibiotics.

Horseflies are assholes.

It might be, I'd definately try to deprive it of as much of my blood as possible, purely because all the blood they collect they need to develop eggs O_O

Also... Damn, that sounds awful, how long did you have to put up with that infection?

I can't remember. The swelling started to go down within a few days after I started taking the antibiotics but I think we all held off on actually getting it treated because swelling seems like a fairly common result of those bites. Might have been a week and a half or so in total.

Really I should have asked to have it looked at when I first noticed the swelling wasn't contained to a hard disc around the bite area that time, but oh well.

So that's what a horsefly looks like I always thought it was the common house fly but just more bigger.

Yeah, deceptively unassuming appearance. They are a real nuisance

Really, that's quite lucky, though it might have something to do with how cold the weather was when you went. Today was a very hot day (By Irish standards) and this was my first horsefly bite of this year. Warm weather brings them out. As well as blood.

Oh trust me up in the country of NY and such it gets very hot and humid. I went during this time of the year and the only thing that hurt me was from accidentally touching a electric horse wire x_x; That surely woke me up in the morning.

Yikes O_o that's never a fun experience. Although it's something you never forget, lol, strange how things like that stick with you. :)

D: God you have no idea that stupid wire was hiding so well so when I went to grab the metal fencing my finger got a nice hard jolt which made my whole body stumble back. It boosted my heart rate and I was gasping a bit to the point where I needed to vomit. x_X Never again

They always do hide! It's like they're someone's own cruel practical joke. Wow though, must've been a pretty powerful one they had there if it made you vomit

Don't let it drink your blood or it'll mutate into a smart, resistant little devil! This is from personal mistake of being caring of all nature. Some things just need to die young and hoarse flies are one of those that need to die.

Definately one to keep away from blood. Something to avoid at all costs!
