The earth is shattered with miserable souls once again,
To count the number would require an exponent of ten,
Dreams wander the surface only to fade into the air propelled,
And blend into the wasted breath of which they were expelled,
Hesitation decides the fate of those who choose to wait,
While he who takes the risk finds only himself to hate,
Those we've left behind remain to dream of yesterday,
But those driving onward still try to find their today,
Care must be shown to these fragile hearts,
As they stand damaged by another one of fate's darts,
Thoughts become frantic to escape and fly away,
Yet they become just another way to say 'it was a nice try',
Hope shines as faint lights in fainted hearts,
Hoping it has not run out of new starts,
Weary knees struggle to hold the body
As every fantasy of the past has sunken to the despair of night,
The future teases easier fare for the traveler,
An oasis for the lost and forlorn wayfarer,
A door stalwart and strong of solidity,
A barrier created by the tired mind's frailty,
Just a few more steps and the door promises to unlock,
And the arms muster the strength to push open and beat the clock,
Faint not you lonely drifter as you pass the night,
Your eyes lie not as the crack under the door is indeed bright,
That doorknob is not too high if you just try to reach,
Clutch the handle with every last breath you might beseech,
Reprieve and rest as peace fills your body unabashed,
And forget those times when your desires seemed dashed…
