"I'll never do it right!" Said a teary-eyed five year-old Olivia to the friend a few small strides behind her. Valeria quickly swept in behind the girl, falling to her knees to hug her close, her cheek to the back of Olivia's neck, "You will! I'll help you learn how to make a snow harpy!"
"But you've tried! I've tried! I always mess it up at the end and it just... it doesn't look pretty like yours!" Said Olivia, sobbing quietly as, at last, Oswen caught up with the two small girls, standing a short distance away, looking to them quite puzzled, "Why'd she run off like that?" He asked to Valeria who looked to him with one eye, her cheek still on Olivia's neck, "She wants to make a snow harpy..." She stated simply, never much caring for Oswen. "Tch. Yea... like it's that hard~" He teased back, not realizing the struggle Olivia was having with he seemingly simple task. The stinging words only made the small girl sob harder, and Valeria hugged her tighter. Not understanding the significance of the small trouble, he simply rolled his eyes and wandered off once more. In truth, he liked Olivia, and teasing her was his way of showing that, even if he didn't REALIZE that he liked her as he did. In fact, he thought she was being quite childish. Even if they WERE children. But his upbringing was different from theirs. He was going to be someone special some day... or so his parents always told him.
He disappeared from the old ruins outside of town where they had been playing, returning back to Bristah. The two girls, however, remained; Valeria holding Olivia until the tears finally stopped. A few sniffles from the smaller girl finally ended the tears. She then turned and smiled brightly, in spite of her tear-stained and reddened human cheeks, sharing characteristics not unlike her mother.
Olivia, her mother Aria, and even Oswen and his family held strong characteristics of their kind. However, Valeria was an exception. Rather than her whole middle being human, as most harpies, she had only the front of her torso bare of skin, a clear sign of added avian traits. Of course... the explanation of this was quite simple; her mother was more avian just as she herself was. Her mother had been the product of a crow and a harpy, and that strong crow blood coursed through them both and shown vibrantly. Still, neither of the women would ever fully be accepted in the societies or the harpies OR the crows. Still, in Bristah, they were accepted by the harpies there and felt truly at home. Welcome. And Olivia was Valeria's truest friend.
The smaller girl with winged arms and talons at the ends, carefully pounced her friend in joy, nuzzling back now, cheek to cheek, quite happy that Valeria had stayed. "Alright. You can teach me. Is now good?" She asked excitedly. Valeria just smiled and reached up, hugging Olivia tight. "Of course it is!" She replied enthusiastically.
As darkness fell over the tarnished ruins, decorated by the soft white fallen snow, Olivia looked up to the rising moon on the horizon and tensed, "Mom's gonna be mad!" She said, surprised at how late it had gotten. The two had had too much fun learning snow harpies and having snowball fights, but it was time to get home. The two rose and made their way back through the forest leading to town, empty branches covered in a sheets of snow. They followed their usual route home. Though they tended to travel in daylight.
The forest at night was... unnerving for children of only five years old. Noises all about them, as well as rustling branches, with the occasional falling pile of heavy snow. Each and every noise causing poor little Olivia to jump with fright and cling to Valeria's rigid white and red arm, shivering against her with fright. Having to be strong for the both of them, Valeria still walked proud and strong, though fear shook her young frame as well. They could see the lights of town off in the distance, and it filled Valeria with all the confidence she needed, knowing they would be home safe soon.
However, the confidence had given her a false sense of security and she had stopped paying attention to their surroundings, and soon a howl caught the wind, echoing through the tired branches of the sleeping woods. Valeria stopped in her tracks and Olivia tucked in under one of Olivia's wings in fear. Moments later, the source of the howling presented itself as a pair of young wolves presented themselves, circling the girls on opposite sides. Valeria did not know what to do. She felt their death was certain now. She could scream, but she did not wish to startle the wolves into attacking. For now, she was safe. And, more importantly, Olivia was safe.
The wolves paced a solid minute around the girls, looking for a proper opening before one of them pounced straight at Valeria, who spread out her wings before Olivia to use her body as a shield, but screamed out how terrified she was, her short life flashing before her eyes, and a tear fell down her cheek at the thought of it ending so abruptly. What would her mother think? She would be heart-broken, Valeria imagined. As would Olivia, no-doubt. But she couldn't just stand and watch her friend die in front of her. As she screamed, the tears just rolled down her cheeks, closing her eyes tight, and, long moments later, the wolf never collided with her form. She didn't know why this was. Did he decide to stop? She opened an eye and peered out, seeing the wolf on it's side, twitching on the ground from some unseen attack. She was confused as to what happened, but soon Olivia screamed as the other wolf attacked. Valeria spun around just in time to see Oswen dive in from the side and give the wolf a surprisingly sturdy blow to the head for someone so young. The wolf collapsed in but a moment, and a few moments later still, Syrra and Aria arrived on the scene, both of them absolutely terrified for the safety of their young girls and flying to their sides, hugging the girls tightly to their chests, just happy to see their girls safe.
It was not until later that evening that Oswen asked Valeria how she did what she did. Valeria merely looked back to him puzzled, head cocked in curiousity, "What... did I do...?" She asked him. He merely looked back at her befuddled for a few long moments before speaking, still a bit bewildered, "That lightning. What WAS that?" He asked, tone coated in awe and astonishment. Valeria returned his question with a few blinks and shook her head, "I... I dunno what you're talking about..." She replied to him. "Well... whatever it was... you saved Olivia." He replied with a smile, before giving her a bow as his parents had taught him, "I have to go for now... bye Valeria." He gave her a small wave and scurried off to his home.
Valeria still couldn't believe it, looking to her hands, "Lightning...?" She mused to herself. She then looked to Olivia who was curled up next to her mother in the big bed the four all shared, already sleeping as Aria pet gently through the small girl's hair, clearly glad she was home safe. Syrra's voice then rang out, "Valeria! Come to bed, Sweetheart!" "Okay, Mommy!" She called back, quickly joining everyone in bed. 'Lightning...' she thought to herself, wondering if she could ever harness that power. Little did she know that would not be the last time she used magick. And that she would, indeed, become quite skilled with it... one day.
To be continued...
I liked uploading the last one this way better, so I won't upload it as a downloadable file this time unless I get complaints from people wanting that version. x3 Still haven't gotten to where I commissioned an actual image for this story... I get too wrapped up in telling it, it would seem. xD Either way, I hope you all enjoyed it and look forward to reading the future installments. Once more, the picture associated with this story is no work of mine and I calim no rights to it in any way. To the person that drew it, kudos to ya. Indeed. As it stands, I'm cranking out a part/chapter a night, but there's a good bit to tell. Overall it'll still come out as one big short story... dunno if there will be enough by the end to collab it into an actual book, but... who knows. That's the fun of it! 8D
And, if I DO ever make a book, you can be sure I'll be offering my watchers a special offer to get a free signed copy. <3

I certainly thought so. ^w^
It's good advertising of my work, so what can I say? :3
I mean... if I pass out a copy to all interested, and they happen to share with their friends... it can really expand from there. :3
Next submission is likely going to be sexually explicit, as I think it may hook a few others who wouldn't normally be interested in this story. Not sure if I'll include the chapter in the final cut so, until then, it shall be referred to as Part 2.5 and, if it doesn't get included, it'll be a 'Lost Chapter' Hoping to get the opinion of you especially once I post it. However, if that sort of thing's not up your alley, I would quite understand. x3
At any rate, working on the new chapter right after I post this. With luck, should be up in an hour or so. ^w^
Need to find an eye-catching art piece to slap with it though since I still can't use the commission piece I have for it. xD

Oh honey, sexual content is my favorite content.
I won't be able to read the new chapter right away, but I'll get to it as soon as I can.
I like the idea of a "lost chapter". Keeps the official version open for a larger (and younger) audience while giving the hardcore fans some fun bonus material.
Good luck with the writing!

Ah, well this is good to know!
It apparently got too large for all one post, so I've listed it 2.3 instead, and a 2.6 will be coming soon. This first one is a LITTLE light on sexual content, but... I'm probably gonna blast the next one with a fair bit of it since it cuts off not too far into the play. Which is a hook, by the way. ;3
