6 hours worth of work
This is a contest entry for Anthro-Fantasy-Club on dA
The title is from the Toby Kieth song "American Soldier"
This pic was indeed challenging, and I'm actually thankful for the challenge.
Here's the lyrics to American Soldier:
I’m just tryin’ to be a father, raise a daughter and a son
Be a lover to their mother, everythin’ to everyone
Up and at ‘em bright and early, I’m all business in my suit
Yeah I’m dressed up for success, from my head down to my boots
I don’t do it for money, there’s bills that I can’t pay
I don’t do it for the glory, I just do it anyway
Providing for our future’s, my responsibility
Yeah I’m real good under pressure, being all that I can be
And I can’t call in sick on Mondays when the weekend’s been too strong
I just work straight through the holidays, and sometimes all night long
You can bet that I stand ready, when the wolf growls at the door
Hey I’m solid, hey I’m steady, hey I’m true down to the core.
And I will always do my duty no matter what the price
I’ve counted up the cost, I know the sacrifice
Oh and I don’t want to die for you, but if dyin’s asked of me
I’ll bear that cross with honor, cause freedom don’t come free.
I’m an American Soldier an American
Beside my brothers and my sisters, I will proudly take a stand
When liberty’s in jeopardy, I will always do what’s right
I’m out here on the front lines, sleep in peace tonight
American Soldier, I’m and American, Soldier.
An American Soldier an American
Beside my brothers and my sisters, I will proudly take a stand
When liberty’s in jeopardy, I will always do what’s right
I’m out here on the front lines, sleep in peace tonight
American Soldier, I’m an American, an American, an American, Soldier.
I'm eternally grateful for everything our soldier have done for us. They're taken from their families and fight for what they believe is right. I may not agree with the war currently going on and what it's changed into, but it doesn't make me any less grateful for what the soldiers have done for us.
This pic can also serve as a memorial of sorts, for those soldiers that have lost their lives in the wars present and past. They have their wings now and fly among the clouds, free from this corrupted world.
Enjoy

Freedom ain't corny imagery and blind obedience either.
Sorry. That was rude, and this is a nice piece. But in the wake of September 11th, it seems to me that 'patriotism' is equated with obeying leaders and having more flags than anyone else.
In the years following that disaster, the symbols of our nation were sprinkled heavily but mindlessly everywhere. Many of you probably know what I mean. Cheesy merchandise; cheap flags that hung out by the dozen, but were left in the elements until they turned to purplish rags. An American flag doesn't stir so much of a response for me now. With so much overuse, their symbolic potency has diminished.

then why comment on an image that's well over four years old~
I get it, i do, the world has changed drastically in this time. I have friends that fought in afghanistan, people i hold very dear, and i'm one of the lucky ones to have them come back to me.
i also just lost my train of thought on this, so i give up
too much stress lately
