Sitting in the lunch room at work, i was hit with a sad realisation. Canadian thanksgiving is a load of.. well, you know.
I mean, we celebrate, we have the turkey, the pumpkin pie, and enough yellow, red and orange to make you puke green. What we lack is the "reason"... For there were no pilgrims in silly hats, no Indians wearing feathers and no americans painting reverent pictures and planning dinner menus. What we did have, apparently, is some guy in newfoundland who was simply rather thankful that the crops didn't die of frostbite.
Taking this into consideration kinda puts a damper on the whole "holiday" idea. I mean, we get food, most of us get paid not to work (except those of us in the Maritimes, where the whole "thanks" thing actually, supposedly, happened...), and the pumpkin pie and stuffing goes on sale, but that's about it. TV programming doesn't even change, and that's saying something. One would not be able to watch reality TV if one were celebrating an actual holiday.
In conclusion, here is a turkey, cause quite frankly, as a Canadian, i feel i can not possibly mock the holiday any further.
...Except to post rather half a$$ed and poorly photographed art in the first place.
Anyway, Happy Turkey Day!
