Basically, I was doing "alternative" designs to pokemon. That is, take some pokemon that are either disliked, overdesigned or in one case a personal minor rustling of jimmies.
Vanillish: I can see why they're none too liked, basically being ice cream with faces. In this case nearly nothing was changed except the nubs and bottom spikes. Basically tried to make it look less like an ice cream and more like a creature with kirby-ish anatomy, a big spike tail and a load of snow on it. Basically tried to make the resemblance more "co-incidental" as it were.
Rhydon: Like pretty much all of the others that were picked for being over designed here, Rhydon's a gen 1 pokemon. Although he has a fair few of needless detail (random blocky protrusions and whatnot) he's not nearly as much of a mess as Rhyhorn. Actually, in my opinion, Rhyperior's probably the better designed out of the line since, yes, it does still have a lot of detail, it's mostly to give it a worker-esque appearance (like the bits of protector that look like ear muffs and wrecking-ball tail) so it at least amounts to something.
Magmar: Again, a lot of needless detail like bands everywhere, those things on the arms and constantly making each part differently coloured. Doesn't help that it looks rather derpy. In this case, I was going for a sort of dragonplatypus thing and making its limbs look more natural.
Ekans: Those yellow bands weren't too bad, however that and the structure of his face made him look more like a worm than a snake. Basically made his face leaner and had that head-line thing run down to the tail which now has a stinger on it.
Druddigon: Personally, I like this guy. Maybe the fact that the head looks "seperate" to the body throws people the wrong way so made it look more attached. Also changed the wings to be more fin-like since they don't really allow it to fly anyway.
Nidoking: As much as I love the Nidos, both king and queen's designs aren't that great. The whole arm-area looks robotic and while Nidoqueen intentionally has boobs, it seems near impossible to draw Nidoking without looking like he has bigger mammaries than queen. :V Nidoking's big lower fang and Nidoqueen's animatronic lower jaw really hurt their potential for expressions.
Latias: For the most part, the design of Lati@s is fine, interesting but also easily memorised. However, I could care less for jet-plane like structure. The stiffness of the wings and pretty much the whole body feels robotic and stops them from being nearly as impressive as they could be. So yeah, allowed for some actual wing movement but also changed the arms to legs as to give them a more wyvern-ish look. :3
basically, just screwing around with things mostly for artistic reasons.
