I lost Sully in May and his half-brother Polly passed this morning early.
Polly had been frail the last three months. About ten days after Sully passed, he became depressed and began eating less and less. He really started to fade on Monday and passed on Thursday morning at 1 am.
He was 16 and the last of my old guard. Bon voyage, baby. Mommy love you. Say hello to Sully for me.

Thank you. I originally had three males and four females. Now Shadow is my only male. And he's been hiding the last three days --since the thunderstorms came rolling through. I think he knew something was up with Polly and it scared him.
He doesn't like thunder, either.

He's got something in common with me, heh. I know how you feel about it all, though. I actually lost my second dog on Christmas Day a few years ago. Day before my mate at the time broke up with me, too. I wish you the best in everything. I hope Shadow comes out and you give each other plenty of company for years to come. Take care. You have my condolences.
I am so sorry for your loss *hugs* I know how it feels to loose one so close I still think of my two wolf mixes to this day. Please don't make the mistake I have, don't wait too long to get another cat. They will never take the place of the friend you lost but they will find a new place in your heart
I still have 5. AND my mother has this feral kitten who is so cute, I can hardly stand it. HOWEVER, I was stretched at 7 and 6 isn't much easier. Fortunately, the kitten is too young to leave mom yet and I have a little time to think about it.
Besides, I need to find out what's up with Shadow, who's been hiding since Monday --when Polly really started going downhill. He and Polly were really good buds and I think he got scared when Polly got sick. He's only 7 and plump as a goose, so I think he's fine. Just spooked. He's not the brightest bulb and easily rattled.

Polly was sickly to start with and he really got depressed when Sully died. It took him ten days to figure it out, but once he did, he started to fade. He took a real downturn on Monday. At that time, Shadow (who is only 7 and healthy) took to hiding. He was Polly's buddy and I think he knows something was very wrong and it scared him. He's now my only male. That can be scary, too.
Damn, I'm so sorry for your loss, Vicky. *hug*
Two of my cats are litter mates, brother and sister, both 15. They're very close, been together all their lives, every single day. Both are still healthy, but I know if something ever happened to one, I'd most likely lose the other too from grief.

We lost a kitty a few months ago she was 21, but she was in good health for that age and full of life. She just suddenly couldn't walk straight and lost bladder control. I mean was TOTALY out of the blue, she was fine that night she curled up on the couch like always and by 5 am it went down hill. She had this confussed look on her face as to why she couldnt get outside to pee and she tryed so hard, wanted to eat and drink etc...We took her to the Vet and did the right thing and now she is up with the rest of the kitties and her buddies we have lost over the years...
Its rough when they go like that without any real warning. We have 2 dogs as well that are litter mates and we have no doubt that when one goes the other will follow. They are around 12 now so we figure another 3 years and are trying to brace for it.

Sounds like she had a stroke. Those are very sudden and can be devastating.
Polly was not as big a surprise as Sully. Sully was fine when I went off to work, in trouble when I got home and expired before I could get help. (In this part of Delaware, there is no 24-hour emergency vets.) Polly was enemic from nose-bleeds which were too costly for me to fix --and too dangerous for a cat over 12 to have done. He was holding his own, though, until about ten days after Sully died. Then he just sort of collapsed, slowly. The real downturn was on Monday. He just caved after that.
I still have 5, so I'm not alone. And Mom has a kitten she wants to give me. And so it goes...

Very sorry to hear that, though it's nice to think they're probably together again somewhere.
And yes, it takes a while before the surviving cat figures out what happened. :( I've seen them running around the garden calling the lost brother/sister, even carrying pieces of food for them!

I am beyond sorry for you loss.
One of the worst things in life to go through.
But just know you gave them the best life they could ever ask for and no-one could have done it better than you; their mommy.
May they rest peacefully in Kitty Heaven
And you take it easy there, Vicky.
You're a tough Woman.

Sullivan and Apollodorus are named after characters in a book I was writing at the time I got them.
Peep-peep is named after the noise she makes
Squeak ditto
Cleo(patra) got her name because she has black around her eyes like Egyptian eyeliner
Shadow was named by my mother, but I saw no reason to change it
Saffron is named after her color, which is close to the spice
Tinker was originally named Tinkerbelle because the kitten was tiny, busy, friendly and cute. Last night I discovered that she was a he and decided that he was Tinker Ball. Or Tinker for short.
GOD HE'S SO CUTE I CAN'T STAND IT!
