I just had to share this. The mink here at the Icelandic Zoo barely ever are seen. What a gift for my daughters second birthday, this one made an appearance!!
He or she sure did like me!!! So cute I wish I could bring it home.

This photo reminds me of a documentary on black foxes that were being bred for their skins, but were being treated like puppydogs to make them tame and docile (the breeders would hand-feed and play fetch with them and cuddle them a lot when they were young), Sure enough, the foxes did grow up to be very friendly and easy to handle when it came time to slaughter them. But after a few generations of this, a strange thing began to happen. The newborn foxes that came from "domesticated" parents started to develop spots of white on their black coats. The theory is that domestication produced the spots. (Think of how many dogs, cats, cows and horses are spotted.)
So it could be that this little fellow was part of a similar breeding project, meaning that he could very well be as tame and friendly as a pet ferret. I like to think so.
