I like to read mystery/detective novels for relaxation. (You'd think I'd be a sci-fi or fantasy fan, but no.) This title & cover jumped out at me at the library so I took it out. I'd just read Star Island by Carl Hiassen who writes really fun Florida-based novels about crooks & lunatics, so I thought this would be along those lines...
I was bored stiff by the first page - waaaaaaaaaay too cleverly written for its own good or my interest. Too bad - I like the cover 'gator and there's a flip-booky thing inside with the gator rising from the bottom of each page until he reaches & bites the book's title.
Not the first book I took because of an anthro cover either; not long ago I borrowed Casual Rex, which was apparently 2nd or 3rd in a series about a modern-day anthro dinosaur detective in Los Angeles (& the source material for that unbelievable stinker of a Whoopi Goldberg movie Theodore Rex). Again, they lost me by the first paragraph. The moral: from here on I stick with Kinsey Milhone and Spenser stories.

To help Dragon: Casual Rex, Anonymous Rex, and Hot and Sweaty Rex are a detective series in which well...dinos haven't really died, but are in disguise. The novels do run along a different idea when it comes to how they hide compared to the movie although. May be a good read for ya.
You and Rich should talk smack about mystery novels... He's just as big a fan! :) And I still recommend "The Fourth Bear" by Jasper Fforde, which is a very well-done "Nursery Crime"... I think I reviewed the book in a journal entry on my FA page a while back, and I LOVE it. It got me crying, too, because I longed to be the "Friend of Bears" that is described in the book. Plus, there is a huge explanation of the building where all anthropomorphic characters live together, as well as a great monologue of Papa Bear and his opinion on how bears are treated by humans. I'm certain that "Bear Comes Home" does it better, but "The Fourth Bear" is equally good. I think Spete would love it, too, as it's got some nice Dr. Who-ish moments, if I remember correctly.
I have a feeling that Mr. Fforde knows about furries quite well, due to an essay he wrote online. Remind me to link you to it soon!!!
And you're a sexy gator! :-D *rubs your thumpy, bumpy TAIL *
