The kingdom that they said would last for a multiple millennia, the fools those prophets where, it took four decades before it began to slowly crumble beneath its own heels, the idiots they put in charge of running it where all but useful, the military advisor sent all the troops to fight in the northern front, no troops were left to guard when the Rylons attacked us. The kingdoms treasurer was a greedy old hag who wasted most of the cash on updating the main castle instead of helping the citizens, which led many of them to revolt and ravage everything, killing any royal servants or guards, the bloody masses still litter the street and halls, so many dead, so much pain.......
“My sire! Arise, they are coming, we cannot wait any longer!” One of his servants yelled, spear in hand, holding down the large door. There was a ;large amount of yelling coming from the opposite side of the door, the peasants finally reached the main chamber, that door is the only thing keeping the royals safe now.
The door slightly opened but was able to be closed with a spear stabbed through the small opening, killing the peasant attempting to get though. The screaming was getting increasingly louder; more and more peasants were rushing in to try to take down the doors.
One of the guards stopped and sniffed the air “anyone else smell burning?”
The others halted, then looked at the door, a slight glow could be seen from behind it.
“Shit! They are starting the main hall on fire!” One of the guards yelled, becoming panicked
“there is no way out, no way out-” the guard continuously said, paranoid and scared beyond his limits.
The king got up, surveying the scene as his memory came flooding back from the events
“Troops, set fire to the door on this side, I have a secret passageway out of the castle hidden underneath the throne.” As he quickly stepped over to his thrown, moving it aside to reveal a square meter opening into the ground.
“How long has that been there” One of the guards asked, peering into the gaping hole.
“I had that installed in secret, the only people that knew I had killed swiftly, this leads to the southern mountains where there is a fully stocked base that we can live in for a month before moving off to find a new place to reside” The king explained, then jumped into the hole, a loud thud was heard as he hit the ground
The guards looked at each other before one after another jumping into the hole, only to be surrounded in darkness.
“Close the entrance off quick!” The king yelled, grabbing a piece of flint and a torch and attempting to light them.
The guard swiftly closed the hole after setting fire to the main chamber; no one will think they survived.
“How far does this tunnel go?” One of the guards complained, they had been walking for hours now, it only got darker and darker. Several noises were heard from behind, probably part of the cavern giving away from the collapsing castle. They couldn't see anything, the only light was from the torch the king was holding
“This tunnel goes straight into the Fujari mountain range, it will be a little longer until we get there” The king said, not breaking pace for the last few hours.
“Oh god! That is on the outer boundaries of our territories!” One of the guards protested
“Yea! how you expect us to get there?!” the other guard complained, clutching his side
The king halted, turning slowly to glare down on the three guards “You three listen good because I am only going to say this once” He paused, making sure they were listening.
“We are the last four civilized people in this kingdom! You want to turn back and get mauled by hundreds of angry peasants than be my guest!” He swiftly turned, continuing to walk.
The three guards looked at each other, shocked
“Well we already got this far” One guard said, rushing to catch up to the king
The two others looked at each other, then ran to catch up.
“Sir look! I think I see an opening!” The guard scrambled up to the opening onto a mountain plateau, he then collapsed on the floor, a mix of kissing the floor and sleeping from exhaustion.
“Pitiful bloke” The king muttered under his breath
the two other guards sat down on a few stones, regaining the energy they lost on the long hike to the mountain.
“Well at least you three were able to make it up here, looks like they actually taught you endurance in training” The king said, grabbing equipment that was hidden under a large boulder.
The guards ignored the comment, and started gathering leaves to make some makeshift beds.
They looked off into the night, the towers still ablaze, the smoke cloud blocking out the moon and stars. The guards watching, feeling completely helpless as the north tower collapsed in on itself, then begin to set the village on fire when it plummeted over the wall into the village square. The blaze spread quickly, engulfing everything within a matter of minutes, the screams of burning victims could be faintly heard in the echoes going through the valleys in between the mountain range.
So this is how it ends, no sorrow, only the swift justice to the undeserving and unlawful, the king thought to himself, then turned over, to sleep and plan for the storms ahead.
