When the Gibtown Showmen started in 1933, they were called the "Florida" Showmen and only played under a big top owned by the Feral Bros. Circus. In 1942, they played their 1st "Road" game at West Point to entertain the troops prior to them being sent overseas to fight in World War II. In that game, they defeated a team of college All-Stars 76-52. In 1950, the Feral Bros. Circus was purchased by Royal Gibtown Amusements, prompting their name change to the "Gibtown" Showmen.
