I'm wondering if it's the rodents or something else, like the bedding you're using or possibly something as seemingly harmless as alfalfa, timothy grass, etc. My sister was slightly allergic to the cedar shavings we used for our assorted critters. We switched to aspen shavings and her symptoms disappeared. Just a thought.
I also read a long time ago that a person's body chemestry completely changes every five to seven years, and people can develop allargies/sensitivities to things that never bothered them before. I went through a period where I had pollen allergies, then they went away.

Yeah, I put max in a pocket once. It was the pocket of really baggy cargo shorts. That was the end of that.
Max liked to sleep, a lot, and when he was sleeping he'd roll into a quill ball and jump at anything that touched him. I used to call that "spiking." He'd do it when he was awake, too, but he'd check who it was before he did it. Down side to being in a pocket, something is always touching you.

One word: OUCH! Chi Chi was very friendly-- most of the time. He just got these moods once in a while (sound familiar?) Maybe he was taking his cues from me. Animals are pretty empathic. Still, he almost never bit anyone, and nvever very hard-- just enough to let you know he wanted to be left alone.
He used to like to ride on our Golden Retreiver's back or head, and the damn dog let him. They were best buddies.
