Just a couple to post today -- it's very, very, very la... early.
A day ago someone sent me a file of a blank fortune cookie, for some reason. I had the immediate bright idea to follow up my New Ten Commandments with a sequel. The Abridged Version!

Okay, now I *KNOW* the internet is weird. Pages and pages and pages of fortune cookies. I wonder if mine is now buried among that lot? Oddly, I had a hard time finding a photo that was useful. I did find the very same one I was sent. But it was several pages more before I found another cookie that might do for the reverse side.
I salute you all by consumming righ this moment a fortune cookie I got at the Mandarin buffet today. (I had a birthday dinner with my sister today.) My fortune reads...
"You cannot lead anyone else further than yolu have gone yourself."
I don't know why, but that seems weirdly appropriate for a wanna-be messiah.

I log in as Saara only because I mucked up logging in as myself. I'd probably change it if I could. Since I live off my art, there's no advantage in my being coy, and hidding under a pseudonym. So you can call me Taral... as long as you don't call me late for dinner, as they say.
Saara is Saara, and never the other way around. That is, I'm not she and she's not me.

So...what *is* the "One Commandment"? Is it simply to "See Other Side"? If so, the other side of what? Like most religious texts, it's rather vague, and open to multiple interpretation.
The "Other Side" could refer to the far side of the Earth, meaning that we should travel to distant lands in order to gain perspective on the human condition. It could refer to the other side of our soul: perhaps we're meant to explore our darker nature, like Captain Kirk did in "The Enemy Within." In that light, might it be referring to the Dark Side of The Force? Are we supposed to take advice from the Sith? As I recall, that didn't turn out so well for them.
Or is it simply a movie title? IMDB lists many films entitled "The Other Side," or "Other Side of...[something]," but none called simply "Other Side." Somehow, though, I think if were a movie title, it would have been in quotations.
Perhaps the other side of the fortune is blank, meaning we're meant to choose our own path toward enlightenment. That would leave our Sunday mornings free to sleep in or watch football, and save quite a bit of money -- "And once again, tithing is ten percent off the top. That's gross income, not net. Please, people, don't force us to audit."
P.S. In case you're worried, no, I'm not being serious about any of this: I really am more stable than this post would suggest. ;)

Yeah, I saw the other Ten a while back: much more sensible than the Original. The fortune cookie does have simplicity going for it, though, and I can see the resemblance to a Zen koan. "What is the sound of a million Chinese restaurant patrons turning over a small slip of paper?" ;)
