These sketches were all done when I was in high school, so...2003? 2004? I was really terrible about dating my work back then. Actually, I still am.
From left to right we've got Psalm, Alucina, Desiree, and Hodgepodge. All of these are characters I've had for years but sort of shoved into a dusty old closet in the back of my mind.
Psalm: A young giraffe woman from Aequali, a fictitious island heavily inspired by Jamaica. (A lot of my characters originate from there; I'm considering ditching the fictitious island aspect and just making them outright Jamaicans.) Psalm has a naturally sweet personality but is as assertive as her profession requires her to be. She's a higgler, a sort of street trader common in Jamaica. I once considered placing her at the center of a comic or story series centering around her adventures. She would travel to other islands (or continents) to buy or gather interesting wares to sell upon returning home.
Alucina: A hallucinogenic toad woman of South American descent who works as a bartender. She's rumored to put some of her own skin secretions into some of her "signature" cocktails. I pictured her as sort of a villain, or at least an amoral and untrustworthy character. I liked the idea of a character where just kissing her on the lips would send you into a hallucinogenic nightmare. She's wearing a little cocktail server dress here, has a flower on her head, and is wearing a medallion with a skull and crossbones on it.
Desiree: A humanoid space alien, originally conceived as a "Rocky Horror Picture Show" fan character. She was the illegitimate child of Dr. Frank N. Furter and one of the random tuxedo-wearing female partygoers (the "Transylvanians") you see in the film. Later I reworked her as an original character who was simply inspired by the Rocky Horror universe. Desiree is very wealthy and has rather eccentric tastes (even for an alien). She's highly intelligent, but her laziness, greed, and materialism overshadow her scientific curiosity. She gets grants from scientific foundations on her home planet to travel around and do "research," but in reality she's just giving herself extravagant intergalactic vacations on their dime.
Hodgepodge: Another humanoid space alien, Desiree's put-upon maidservant. Originally conceived as the child of Riffraff and Magenta from Rocky Horror, so she was supposed to be a mix of those two characters in appearance and personality. Yes, those characters are siblings, and yes, the movie alludes to them being romantically or sexually involved with each other. So in addition to having pretty messed-up parents in the first place, Hodgpodge is the product of incest. I'd like to retain this part of her character even if she's separate from the "Rocky Horror" universe.
Hodgepodge is unhealthy and has a really bad attitude. It doesn't help that her boss is hell to work for.
