The man next to him is Kovac, his creator.
Kovac is a special snowflake who takes the souls of the dead and forges them together to create something new; mainly monsters and terrible creatures.
He gets his kicks that way.
Leash was his first ever forge and...he didn't turn out quite right. But, despite his hatred for Leash, keeps him around for sentimental "my first baby-boo" reasons.
