This was a test pic made during the concept phase of Gave it Her All, a commission depicting this character,
miateshcha's Corbenna, in a state of utter exhaustion following a soccer game. Owing to the length of time meeded to complete the commission pic, I vector-traced this image and put a simple backdrop behind it as a bonus. Obviously this is early in the game that left her in the condition shown in the other pic :). Perhaps the most involved portion of this piece was drawing the diagonal lines in the fence beside the bleachers--which I undertook to fill up blank space. This one went rather quickly compared to the main pic, which was plagued by my erratic work schedule. By the time I got to do the inks, it was s simple matter to throw this in since ther was no backdrop to deal with*. When color-time rolled around, I was already on vacation for a few days and was rested enough to add this in following the completion of the main pic.
*Vector tracing removes much of the irregular jagged edges (like from an ancient fax machine) that normally eat up vast amounts of my time in cleanup before coloring. I'm talking about futzing with individual pixels here. Up close it seems pointless, as much of that mess disappears once I resize the 300dpi pic for Web display. But it still looks terrible on the original, so I'm personally compelled to fix it. I have a number of penciled pics that came into being while I stopped posting in order to work on these commissions. All of these will get the same process once my backlog is clear, now that I've re-acquired the hang of digital inking with vectors. It just saves time vs hand-inking and laboriously fixing all those spots where the brush ran low on ink (leaving a gray line that scans poorly), or the pen jiggled while drawing an arc.

Well, they're intended to be socks, but since the character is playing barefoot (and presumably is like that all the time), I simply ended them at the ankle.
I drew my characters like that for years during the 1980's, before I learned how to draw shoes (and before people's socks collapsed into "no-see-ums"). Actual legwarmers I would draw a lot more bulky-looking.
