Aww fuck. This thing is -alive-.
Colours are real hard to work with, because I'm always terrified I'll screw up the mix across the layers. It always turns into a real slow, painful bomb-defusal affair where any one misplaced stroke will END MY ENTIRE PICTURE. Which of course is nonsense, but just how painful it is to learn colours if you're aiming for absolute perfection.
The fact you managed to disregard worry and just throw yourself at this is great. Finding the 'flow' is the biggest part of learning art superpowers, and it looks like you managed to break out. It shows! Also digging the Fonz "Eyyy" pose.

EHEHEHEH ;//www//;
Yea, I've always had that sort of problem! I've cut loose a lot on my perfectionism on colors, though, and I really think it's shown, and it's been for the better!! ;o; I just go for complementary, analogous, ect patterns and slap some colors on, mess with the layer type [multiply, screen, ect] and keep on moving. The less you think about it, the more fun it is. :'3 SCRIBBLE COLORS MWAHAHAHA, ART ANARCHY.
But, thanks-- a ton! ;w; I'm glad I managed to grab this flow superpower by the horns and work it into submission. 6w9 And yes, that's exactly what I was shooting for! Making the expression work without eyes and just using the pose and eyebrows-- I'm pleased I was able to pull it off. uwu

I actually keep meaning to try ART ANARCHY but every time, I end up sobbing at the hands of my botched line-work. The idea is to find the flow, and just roll with it, no matter how good or bad the results. I just can't do that. I look at the misplaced strokes and I just cringe constantly. It's actually one of the big reasons why I stopped drawing (other than when my old art clipboard+portfolio got stolen or misplaced). It became a horribly frustrating chore, and it really made me feel like crap.
That's when I realised, I'm doing it all wrong. I'm supposed to be drawing to have fun, not just to create something to upload. I think anybody, with enough hammering of the undo key, and enough re-tracing the same line, can make something that looks incredible... but is that really growth? Can such frustration and constant re-editing really amount to any real degree of development of your own style? I really don't know, but it's such a hard habit to break out of. :S

Well, look at what I did here-- scratchy line art! I think that would work very well for you, actually. :'3 To like, start out, get a feel for it. Just draw yourself a basic sketch to get your idea down. The messier the better. Then do another sketch layer on top of that to detail out your idea some, then do some sketchy-grungy lines that gives the basic idea of what is what. Then, let your colors do the rest! This might help you get a feel for it, then you can move on to making cleaner lines and such!!
I'm sorry to hear about your clipboard/portfolio. ;o; That would heavily discourage me. u_u;; But, I used to be exactly like you with the whole perfectionist thing. The key is to ALWAYS remember this: Art is a form of opinion and expression. No one person has a better opinion than another, and everybody shows their opinion differently. Nobody's opinion is better or worse! As we practice, we can help share our opinion better, but that's just it-- it's only sharing it and expressing it better. It doesn't automatically make the opinion better because it's explained better! No matter what the art looks like, the meaning of the piece is to get the point across. If you do that, then it's a masterpiece. :'3 Nobody's art is better than anybody's, and all art is like a snowflake-- it may look like the same style, but it really isn't. Even people who copy are still not cookie-cutter same. Everybody expresses their art differently, and that's what makes it beautiful.
But exactly, art is for your own enjoyment. Don't worry about anybody else's art. Once you start comparing yourself, that'll cause doubt and ruin the fun. 8( But, I know exactly what you mean. It's not until this past year or so that I've FINALLY broke out of my shell of art-loathing. Just express yourself, do what you think is fun, and don't worry if it looks right. Cut loose, just let the art flow. That's what true beauty in art is-- when you just flow with what you have and make happy mistakes out of your work. Enjoy yourself, because there will always be that one person that doesn't agree. Don't worry about pleasing others or what others art looks like-- it's your work, and that's special and beautiful in its entirely own way. ♥

This is actually one of the problems, too. I'm stuck in a state of wanting to draw, but never satisfied with what I can think of to draw. That kind of contradictory space a person can get stuck in with boredom. "I'm so bored that I want to do SOMETHING, but absolutely nothing seems to interest me!"
I find it amusing that I'm so "stuck" in my art, that the only thing that can dislodge me is philosophy-grade conversation~
The first step, it seems, is in drawing for the sake of drawing, rather than making something I can beat my chest about and declare UGG DRAW GOOD, UGG BEST DRAW. I think of my art like my work ethic : No matter how menial the task, the result reflects on you in a way. I just get too caught up in the shininess of the end results. Once I learn to shrug that off, I'm sure ART ANARCHY will help me start over on re-learning the basics that I totally bypassed before!

Ooohh, ouch, yea. :'c See, I often have to compromise a LOT with myself on what I wanna draw. I am still not to the point where I get an idea and have it come out exactly how I want. I have to fiddle around a lot until I can find something I'm okay with. :/
Art is a giant learning process, and when you get into a funk of doing something a certain way, it's near-impossible to break. It takes a LOT of work to relearn how to do something, but if you give enough effort, it's totally possible. :'3 But, don't concentrate on the end results, concentrate on the idea and making it get to that point. A big problem is seeing the finished product in your head and sticking on that, rather than the steps to GET there. But yea, I wish you luck on ART ANARCHY because it truly is relaxing and helps the flow of things. >u<
