This is an upgrade of an old song of mine, from 8-bit to modern synth.
The original certainly has it's charm, but is dirty sounding by comparison. There was a bit of hard work getting the instruments on the Proteus2K to match the same timbre of the old 8-bit samples I used. Definitely worth it. The song itself is a work in progress, so comments are appreciated.
While not directly written for any game, I get images in my head of little video game rpg characters, climbing through snowy peaks of mountains, to get to some important goal. (As a note of curiosity, a slip of the dial gave me the 'boss' mix for a monster battle in the same zone. It's too short to release just yet.)
Enjoy, and as always, comments appreciated.

Ey, this is great! I definitely get the image of characters trying to get around a harsh mountain area. If you're gonna add more to this, I'd love to hear that!
I really love it so far! maybe when you extend it you could add some kind of soft instrument in the background to add to the environment, like maybe some kind of percussive one. Just throwin the idea out there.
Its also nice to see some original work that isn't techno! c.c

Hehe. Thanks for the comment.
Like I mentioned, it's a work in progress. Currently, though, the main theme has spawned a separate part that compliments it.
I agree with the suggestion. The rhythm needs some spiffing-up. I plan to add some type of rhythmic drumming and plucked string to the sound, since the current drum and tambourine are not very complex. I was told this sounded like Final Fantasy 7's Cosmo Canyon.
The second half isn't just ready yet, but I've got some interesting sounds in it already.

FF7 Cosmo Canyon...? No... I dont see that at all, if this is to make me think of a Final Fantasy song... its "Mt. Koltz" from Final Fantasy 6, and... in my opinion, a much better FF! :P
I was thinking for the rhythm, some distant timpani drums and maybe a tubular bell. maybe the bell doing something at the end of every 8th measure or something. Dunno, things like timpani drums you don't wanna over kill, so I suggest some kind of pattern interval. I like the plucked string idea, definitely go with that. Also, try to swich your leads every once in a while, like, to a different woodwind for a few measure sets.
Just tossin out some more ideas. ^.^

Thanks. The suggestions help. Although, I don't think timpani is going to be in the current mix... since it's plentifully abused in an alternate mix. I'm planning on popping that one up... but am having a little trouble making part of the melody sound right. You're welcome to a private screening, if you like... but the material isn't ready for scraps, even... but that's my own sense of perfection and procrastination at work. Mm. the string is going to be part of the key. The alternate mix sounded like a boss tune for a bit... but I've since then worked it a bit and dubbed it the "high road"
Why did you slow it down!? Its playing slow and at a lower pitch for some reason, I hope you didnt do that, and that the site is glitching or something, because I downloaded the song and I like the fast one much better. o.o
but anyway, I'm interested in hearing whatever you might have in the works, just give me a poke some time.

It must be the new player, 'cause I haven't changed the song. I'll have to check that out later tonight, after work.
But yes, the player used to be the quicktime plug-in on my browser, but now they use something based on flash player 9.
Or, it might just be our imaginations. I shall return with a conclusion.

Update:
Seems like the song plays the same speed as always. I ran FA side-by-side with Winamp. Maybe you were listening to something faster, before. ;)
I know that on my alternate mix, I often want to crank up the speed, but I can't take it very far because some of the instruments get too chopped.
