That's worked so well. You can really see the .....3D-ness....is that a thing? Also putting the smooth Heibi on the corrugated cardboard background serves to bring out more depth.

Yeah, this is all carved from the same piece of cardboard! You just peel back the layers in different depths (I can only get a top layer, a mid layer (like her eyes, back ear and inner ear), that corrugated texture, and "deep" black, like the nose and the pupils (that's just trimming down the background texture) consistently; there's another, layer 2.5 that looks cool but isn't super controllable.) I have to peel up the layers in places for any detail to really be visible, though.

One of my practice pieces back in school was a rose. It looked pretty awesome.

Actually I did this today, but I first started experimenting with stuff like this back in Fibers class as a unique take on our DO ANYTHING AT ALL WITH PAPER!!! project.
