The Gurb child has had time to begin growing crystal on its body. The Gurb isn't like most creatures, and it actually consumes rock as its form of food. As it eats the rock, the minerals the body can't process, it excretes through the small phosphorescent dots on its body, where they collect and begin to solidify, creating the crystals on its body. The Gurb breaks these off as a form of relief, as the crystals make it difficult for it to move. The arms and legs have grown larger too, only adding more thoughts to the idea that they are, indeed, living rock fused into the flesh, or maybe the Gurb isn't even flesh at all?
