Yes they do. I'm also quite fond of the way they waddle and their beautiful stripes. I also like that many skunks' actual stripe patterns vary by birth (some thin, some thick and bold, some barely any stripes at all, some even jet black with no stripes). The cute chirr, their low-key and pacifistic temperament... *sigh* I could go on for hours.

I love some of the color and marking morphs you get in the domestics, particularly fond of apricot and lavender, and the falling star marking. Eh....if only I had more warning when they went to ban skunks in the city limits here, I probably could have gotten to the law makers in time to sway the votes. ~Sighs~

Fine, take the animal, put it down. There's always the OKC outskirts. Or a push to change the law. Need to do that with chickens. There's absolutely no reason you shouldn't be able to keep a few hens in the backyard.

Well I'm living in Edmond right now and should be moving to Moore once the house sells. If they tried to take an animal from me they'd have to put me down first. No fucking way am I letting some cop just barge in and take my pets.

Speaking of which, they don't "put down" skunks with euthanasia like a dog or cat. They drown them in a fucking barrel while the skunk kicks, screams and claws to the top of the cage for it's life, dying painfully.

Put down is a general term, no matter the method. And with animal control, it's very hard to say what they'll do actually, as they are supposed to follow the laws. Drowning is common for trappers to do though, why though....I don't know, it seems like a lot of effort to find a body of water while a skunk is being held by clasp bars in a trap(bear toothed traps are illegal for good reason). Gassing correctly is the most humane for most species that aren't considered edible, but trappers should, in my mind, be good shots as well, because out in the field, that is your only 'humane' option.

I'd just rather see education and push for a change of laws, such color morphs are kind of a tell all sign(especially when you start to get the blue/gray colors) that a species has hit domestication.

The laws are based SOLELY on rabies paranoia. Because the FDA refuses to use the Canadian-made rabies vaccine for skunks, you have to use dog and cat vaccines for skunks and renew them every year. They're not nearly as effective of course since they're developed for other species, and thus the shithead lawmakers think "skunks = rabies" and smarter people like us don't have a leg to stand on. There are online petitions to change the "kill only" laws but of course being online petitions no one listens to them. Since skunks are a minority pet (though 1 million+ pet skunk owners means there's certainly demand) people like us that give a shit are too often dismissed as "those bunny-hugging crazies".

Exotic owners are quite well in danger right now. After what happened in Ohio, people are worried about the big predators while not realizing that 'Exotic species' includes gerbils, hamsters, rats, ferrets, snakes, camels, a lot of hoof stock, and more. Exotic isn't just big predators, and...gods, I need the income to do everything I can to stop this bullshit that's going on.

The FDA....oh.....they write off emu oil as 'snake oil' and BS and I've seen what it can do. The lies. And Monsanto. And everything. I don't want to live on this planet anymore...

What needs to happen to allay the "skunk=rabies" mentality is for the aforementioned Canadian pharmaceutical company to create a duplicate company in the US. That way, when the vaccine is taken before the certification boards, the anti-foreign bias will no longer impede the course of distribution. There are thousands of big-name corporation that do exactly this since it is a way to slap the Made in America label on a product and charge people a few more dollars. Long rant made short: The company needs to pretend to be American if they want lawmakers to take it seriously.

There's also the fact of convincing lawmakers that there are domesticated skunks in times where exotic animal owners(anything that isn't dog, cat, or common live stock) are under attack. Only if I had the money to help the entire situation.
