Old old OLD. I did this when I was first starting to use Famitracker, in 3.5 beta. Actually had to work a bit to get it to work again, because it sounded way off with some of the changes between then and 3.8 beta.

If I remember correctly, 3.5b was the first release of VRC7 emulation. The reason it sounded off was because of the instrument patches used. The first patch set where basically the stock set of the YM2413 chip. The VRC7 used a somewhat modified version of those patches.
Indecently, the Sega Master System had an FM expansion pack that also used the YM2413, and I think it did use the stock instrument patches, so ironically, FamiTracker 3.5b was closer at emulating SMS FM than it was VRC7.
