An OP (Original Pony) of mine that I thought would be able to reinforce the lessons of MLP. Say hello to "Drake."
Now Drake isn't actually a pony, he's a dragon. Through one means or another, he was transformed into a unicorn pony. He knows he's actually a dragon and can manifest some draconic traits (one at a time, if he doesn't want to risk breaking the transformation) such as wings, breath, or scales. But he wants to be accepted as a pony so he can research a treasure he learned ponies have that dragons don't -- friendship. He's got a lot to learn.

You're welcome. I'd even imagined how his "story arc" ends. He has to abandon his "disguise" to protect the Mane Six. When Celestia arrives (because it was a huge dust-up), he apologized to her for breaking their agreement and prepares to leave, sad that he didn't learn about friendship. Celestia asks him why he defended Twilight and her friends. (Long story short, "You discovered friendship; if you wish to stay and learn more, just become a pony again." And he can.)
