Not actually the reaction I was shooting for although on reading it again today I can see where it could seem terrifying to be in that situation. I was actually trying to give the character a sense of ambivalence to his situation, as though he’s adjusted to his plight but still dealing with the fading memories of a lost life.

I think his ambivalence made it more creepy, to me. I dunno.

To tell the truth, this felt sort of familiar to me, as I often have that feeling of reaching back through memories for something distant and almost visable . . and then coming back and taking a few moments to remember why I came into the room I find myself standing in :)

And it is a little scarey when I suspect that I might have forgotten something important . . .

I think everyone does that occasionally. That’s probably why it was received as being scary by so many when I wasn’t trying to be.

It didn't scare me but it definitely had a sense of mystery to it, implying that there was so much more going on that we'd just never know.

Nice story and a good thumbnail to go along with it up top. You gave up enough information to keep me interested while getting me to want to know more about what happened.

This story remembered me about the myriad of squirrels I have seen during my life. The little critters seem to get along so well with humans. Great little piece, it nailed me to my monitor while it lasted.
