Again, we lived together for many years, so it was as much Thank-You as gift. That being said, it took MANY years and MANY commissions before anyone gave me any free artwork. It has nothing to do with popularity and everything to do with the connections you make. And of course, never... ever... EVER asking. Asking someone, especially an artist, for free artwork is the equivalent of slapping them in the face and telling them their art has no value. (Regardless of how much you compliment it.)
