Another shot of me. This was about 1/4 of the way up the Upper Yosemite Falls trail. As you can see, the conditions were lovely. The only part of me that stayed dry the entire hike to the top and back was my feet...amazingly XD Damn good hiking boots. I bought that ugly hiking hat and those rain pants for this trip and they, along with the boots, were some of the best purchases I've made in a long time. This trip would have been FAR more miserable without them.
This trail is really brutal; 3000 foot elevation gain in 3.4 miles. The actual decent onto the upper yosemite falls outcropping is really hairy too. The stairs down in some spots have no railing and sheer cliff on one side, then they have an INNER railing (not outer) where the drop of is 30 feet to the outcropping but the stairs are literally a foot wide. I love heights, but even I had both hands on the railing for that part of the stairs XD Oh and it was snowing at the last 1000 feet, so the stairs were wet and slightly snowy XD
The drop off at this overhanging ledge is as sheer as it looks. It was a bit precarious getting to this spot, but not too bad. Either way, I didn't want to risk either myself or my camera and tripod taking a permanent tumble, so I only had one shot at this XD

Dang, I see. The one that comes to mind for me was when I was climbing Baldy mountain at Philmont in NM. It's 2400 feet above the camp for it. Climbing up was tough but doable, but what was awesome was coming down. The top is just lose rock, and the trail to the summit is just a path worn in the rock on a nice slope. I realized that if I jumped down the hill, I could control my feet sliding easily. It felt like skiing. So I sort of did jump turns down the side in my boots. That was sweet, rock skiing.
Then we proceeded to run or jog down the rest of the trail. That was pretty fun because we were just flyin' past other crews slogging it up the hill. I've never run down a mountain before with a backpack on, but damn it was a thrill. Almost as good at mountain biking. We made it down the 2400 feet in like 30 minutes.
