Meet my pride and joy.
When I finally turned 18, as a gift to myself I decided to finally get a tattoo. So in December of 06 me and my mother (who has five tattoos on her own including permanent makeup) went to Red rocket Tattoo in manhattan and I got this pair of wings tattoo'd on me. They're custom done so I pride myself in knowing that these wings are mine and mine alone.
I'm sure I had some symbolic reason for picking wings...but I don't remember them.
However! Its always fun to forget that I have them on my back and be surprised when I look behind me at my back. Its like Christmas every time! I also surprise people often when they see it. Which is always a blast to do.

I got it a year ago for 200 bucks. Unfortunately due to school, I wasn't able to afford another session until this coming winter. So thats the reason why I haven't colored it in or shaded.
Though at the same time, while talking to the majority of my comic-creating friends and other artists I keep getting mixed reviews on whether its done or not. Some people like it just line and others are feeling its unfinished. So at the same time, I'm not exactly sure if I want to continue with it. I love the lien quality a lot it'd be a shame to cover it, y'know?
As for the 'scar'. Huh, I'm pretty sure its not a scar and just discoloration cause my spine sticks out a lot. XD;

Thats why you have to as the customer, go to various places and make sure you do your research and go to the right place! Finding the right place to get your tattoo is just as important as deciding what you want as your tattoo.
Personally, if you show that kinda dedication to your safety, your parents won't be so turned off to the idea.
But you're 18 so even if you do all that, and they still don't approve, by that time its your body so who cares? But do be cautious about the unclean places and whatnot. It is important.
