I figured this would be good to post on Memorial Day!
This is a commission for
of his red-crested cardinal characters, Manu Koa and Kalena Pau, in a scenario where Kalena is a nurse working at a military hospital in Hawaii right after Pearl Harbor.
Manu Koa has been injured, but he seems to be on the mend!

Ahhh! There it is! I was eager to see you post this artwork in your gallery. The picture is definitely appropriate for Memorial Day!
Thanks again for the commission! The artwork turned out beautifully (in all three renditions).
Nurse Kalena is definitely a cutie. Manu Koa thinks so too!

This is actually very similar to how my grandparents met. One was a nurse, the other a medic during WWII and they met when they were stationed together in England. (Though, they were not caring for each other like in this picture!) This picture is a good reminder of the brighter things that happened during such a dark period.
Same here.
My grandfather was an engineer (3rd class) on a destroyer in the Pacific... his wife divorced him while he was on tour (WW2), but a year or so later he met my grandmother, who was in the USO (doing a show at Pearl while his ship was in dock for repairs).... After the end of the war they got married and lived together the rest of his life. Sometimes there are happy endings.
