Was out doing some doodling with sidewalk chalk with my son this afternoon and couldn't help but draw little, Spikey-Wikey. :)
BRONYCON QUACK:
I just learned that the VA of Spike, who has nearly two decades of VA work including Gundam Wing, is now going to be attending Bronycon. Not only that, I finally looked up the convention details and saw that Lauren Faust herself is going to be there along with John De Lancie. As, technically, I could mass transit myself to this event, I now REALLY want to go!
Why, you may ask? One is to get Cathy Weseluck's (Spike's) autograph, while the other is to see if I can have even the briefest of moments with Lauren Faust to explain to her how making Friendship is Magic has retained my hope of one day seeing the Haposaurs become more than just a fun, creative project I do in my spare time. I have never had the chance to meet any of the folks behind any of my inspirations and this would be a grand opportunity to tell someone who actually makes work like I most enjoy making how thankful I am to see that what I do can go beyond being a side project shared amongst friends.
I'm currently seeing if there is a reasonable way in which I can make the event. Being reliant on public transportation is a real bummer while hotel and convention costs are far more than I can reasonably afford to spend at this time as our family works towards financial stability. However, if I do manage a way to go, I will be bringing my Baby Spike plushie for Cathy Weseluck to sign along with a copy of Captain Scuttles to hopefully show Lauren Faust how her work truly keeps writers like myself ever hopeful of one day being able to bring our own ideas to life for all to enjoy. :)

Awesome! And yes, I'm a lucky father who is happily married to a most loving and supporting wife.
To me, FA is a great outlet for open creativity that allows for a wonderful array of freedom of expression. It also doesn't hurt that, unlike most other art sites, this one is the most friendly on my eye. I'm visually disabled and, so far, FA has been the most accesible web-site I can find that allows me to share my writing with a wide audience while easily taking in what the world has to offer beyond the limitations of the Status Quo. :)
I hope you are able to positively influence your nephew through creativity while showing him what I feel sites like this should be most about, which is fostering open-minded, free-flowing communication of ideas and beliefs. One can only grow from openly interacting with others with a mindset that having their ideas challenged isn't an end so much as a new beginning to greater possibilities. :)

"Being reliant on public transportation is a real bummer..." yeah but it's doable. I manage, anyhow. :P
Anyway, this is quite a cartoony and cheerful peice. I also think the Certain Bear in the top left came out REALLY well, and looks great in a chalky, cartoony style too.

That's so cute. Good luck with getting to the convention. Just as a warning though, with cons, there's no guarantee you'll be able to see any of those people. The lines get long, so long that the event of the person showing ends so you can't get to meet them, and some places only allow you a small amount of time with them.
*Nods and sighs* I've taken that into consideration. As it stands, I'm not going to be making it as I honestly can't afford it. Perhaps if there were more certainties I'd be more comfortable with being all gun-ho to drop the funds to make it happen. However, with my family to consider, I really am having a hard time justifying dropping over $200 minimum for a "maybe I'll see". :(
As a side note, in a dream situation, it'd be so cool to have a moment with Faust to show her the Hapos. Maybe get some encouragement, pointers, or even a contact to perhaps help do some show writing. I know these are next to impossible outcomes, but a dino-duck can dream, can't he? :)

Huhn, I didn't get any note from you. I guess disregard the hotel links thenm but again, I wouldn't have minded putting you up for the weekend at my place-- you and your wife have done the same for me, only fair I get a chance to pay back the favor! Ah well. Note me with what you'd like me to pick up and I'll make it happen.
Kazootles! I was actually just going through the hotel links you sent to see if any of the discounted rates were manageable. *Blush*
I haven't said "No" yet, but I'm fearing cost is going to be what puts the sword through my hopes on this one. I keep crunching numbers and I'm not liking what I'm seeing. Especially if Ethan is going to do swimming over the summer along with the strong likelihood I'm going to need dental work done, too. :(
*Pouts* Drattles, drattles, drattles! If only I could honestly feel good about dropping over $200 on the chance opportunity I'd get a moment with Faust. *Sigh* I know some risks are worth it, but I can't help but feel horrible with all my family stuff coming up. *Puts hands on both sides of head and quacks* ARGH!
Again, I am not going to say yay or neigh until Friday. I will see what I can manage to make it happen. If not, though, I will be sure to make it so you're visit is funded fairly to do what I truly wish I could genuinely do myself without so much guilt going along with it. *Hugs*
