This shot is from the rotted out platform around the levers. At one point there was probably wood here to stand on, or perhaps cast metal grates. I had to straddle the remaining frame amongst a major spider infestation.
Note the herringbone gears on the main driveshaft and cable spools. I don't know if these are typical herringbone gears or Wuest type herringbone gears. But I suspect looking at the chipping occurring on the toothpoint in the centre of the gears that they are not Wuest type.
The two spools could be operated in tandem or separate. There are what appear to be Oldham couplings which can be disengaged. (I do not know if this was typical practice to run them separate or for gathering cable slack)
There are three brakes, one for each spool and one on the shaft between the spools on the main shaft.
I attempted to move each lever, none of the 5 moved even slightly. :-D
