This one took much longer than it should have due to the wrist acting up and an impromptu run to Dick Blick Friday afternoon that took nearly five hours instead of the usual two and-a-half. Damn Boston traffic.
In case it's hard to see due to the scan, that's her tongue sticking out of her mouth, not an odd growth or anything. I do that when I'm concentrating, so I drew Ri doing the same. And yes, my tongue does stick out that far sometimes. The harder I'm concentrating, the farther up my tongue. Is it any wonder I don't like drawing in front of people? I have so many weird ticks.
This one nearly ended in disaster. The blood on Ted's trousers wasn't part of the original plan. My wrist locked yesterday morning while working, causing me to dropped a red marker which bounced off the drawing and into my lap. And yes, the cap was off. Matt convinced me to try making the mark into a blood patch. The black box on the front of the exam table was added to cover up another little red blotch - the damn marker bounced twice. Ah the fun of working with traditional media when you have a wonky wrist.
Speaking of which, this may be the last full background piece for a bit. I need a little break to free up some time for comic work. I'll also be raising my prices on these to help cover the cost of marker refills. Again, all part of the fun of working in traditional media.
