Commission: Free Energy Consumption
This is a commission artwork for
napoleon15
Actually, he accepts ANY silver dragon concept and something like a lightning thingy XD.
It consists the silver lightning dragon doing some computer stuff (internet, programming, gaming, researching, etc. ;P) Because there are no power outlets in the dragon cave, he can use his lightning energy from self, plug his horns which has "+" and "-" polarities with a cable. The cable leads to the AVR going to the inverter (or something like a laptop battery) for the CPU, modem and LED monitor.
He provides a paper bag, an elephant plushie, a book of colors and silver ingots (honestly, I don't know why the commissioner like them, but I have to draw anyway XP).
This silver dragon is much related to my gold lightning dragon Zarthrador. =P

EDIT:
ReptileCynrik found issues on the environment shading and highlights that are too bright (background's extreme darkness), so I corrected the area, making it darker.

Still, this picture is waaaaaay too bright for such a small light source!
I mean, you had the incredible chance of using this very, VERY small light (from the laptop) and intense, very dark shading! This would've been really, REALLY cool...
Why is the backside of the wings as bright as the front??
This is how I would've done it:

Do you see the difference? Tell me!
What can you learn from this? BE MORE BRAVE when it comes to extreme lighting/shading!
This picture is way tooooo bright.
You can still change it, though... ^^

Oh my, your edition is very different from my mind. ^^" Personally speaking, for me your picture is too dark. Now when I came up to my mind, the shadings and shadows are much better. XD
Well, I haven't done that way since extreme shadings and lightings are fearful way to do, but I can change it so that I'll know how to be brave on that kind. Okay, I'll tell the commissioner that I should do some updates
Thanks, Reptile *wing hugs*

IF you do some updates, take my picture as reference. I used a round gradient for the light source and main shading and some dodging of the bright parts.
Eh... no wing hugs, please.
And I'm not REPTILE.
Anyway, I still think your screen adjustments are waaaay too dark set!
And yes, you need to be more brave when it comes to shading.
Especially in this DARN DARK CAVE!!!!!!

I disagree. It's not a portrait, at all - it's a "scene"! And in a scene, we artists have to take care about the environmental light, the sourrounding lights and shades.
A "portrait" would be... like your avatar: a small fraction of the character - mostly only the head and part of the chest.
I just claim that if an artist chooses such dark environment (with only ONE electrical light source), he has to follow the rules of lighting!
Of course, you can always say "I wanted it this way"... fine.
But I still disagree and think that my version is the more "believable", realistic one.

Oh, and by the way... did you EVER take a photo in a cave or dark room?? Did you EVER use a flash for the camera? If you did, take a look the final photo then! XD
You will see extreme shadings on body and background!!!!!!
If this here was taken (?) by a fictional camera... then ALL the shadings and highlights would've been TOTALLY different. ^^"
Nope. Kevin just has to become more brave with dark shadings!
And seriously... I'm sure you KNOW how your dragon character looks like. And you do NOT have to see each and every scale for sure, do you?
And I claim that you surely appreciate a drawing, which looks realistic and which has a certain "flair" and atmosphere.
The darker version does have MORE atmosphere and feeling. It's more cosy... mystical... magical.
That's my opinion.

This is a stunning picture!
I read the above theory by the one saying to change things...Things I would not think to notice, because my focus was on your intended feature - the dragon character. The "mood" was to be light and humorous, to a degree, was it not? I would say you succeeded!
While theoretically he may be correct, this is art. I like seeing the character portrayed, as that was the commissioner's intent. I'm appreciative of art...not critical. This far and away exceeds any ability I could ever DREAM of having!
Besides...Modern screens do have greater light output than older ones. My smartphone is too bright to use at night, so a monitor could be that bright, and the reflections on a silver dragon could also be that bright. As a humble watcher, I see absolutely nothing wrong with what you have done here, my friend!
I've faved this, and really, really like it! ^.=.^ I also like winghugs!

Fun concept! :) I barely noticed the clips on the horns though, well, its dark in that cave! I like it too for that I have an old, somewhat similar concept of "bioelectric" races, and have a dragon in an (unreleased, unfinished) story who at some point powers up a Gameboy in a similar manner. It would be one shitty day for him if he was pissed on a forum though! (Zzzap, one fried laptop there)
I think the light is right. The monitor matters a lot, I have an old, but quality one (with MVA panel), calibrated proper for a gamma of 2.2. I had seen sloppy LCD displays where especially the darker colors were quite off compared to any half-decent CRT and proper LCDs, one notably bumped up the 0%-30% range (on that, this cave interior would look way too bright).
What feels a bit off that skins with smooth scales should probably be glossy (like a snake or tegu lizard) while his are quite matte. Exploiting this could have made his contours a bit more defined, maybe enriching the image if used right.
Anyway, I still like it. Well done, and for the idea!
