Hugo/Hyacinth - Hugo is a spastic and overly excitable oni boy. He is often seen walking and running on all fours. Despite his clan and family being suspicious and unwelcome to outsiders, he immediatly tries to become friends with Kalmia, who isn’t too keen of the strange boy. He is happy that there is another boy around his age that isn’t too harsh on him and will actually keep him company.

He is bullied and generally looked down upon because he has yet to master a transformation technique that the oni clan has, which causes them to grow into large and fierce monsters. Hugo instead commonly transforms into an octopus, but sometimes transforms into other things. He also has a hard time controlling when he wants to transform, sometimes transforming when he gets overly excited or scared. This causes him to be fairly unstable.

Hugo begs Kalmia to let him tag along with him on his travels, saying that this might be the thing that will help him master his transformation power. Kalmia reluctantly agrees and the two become close friends.

Random Fact: Hugo’s true name is Hyacinth. He absolutely hates being called by this name, making it an easy tool for more bullying and teasing.
