Indeed. In the US the stereotype is either the traditional thief (for the mask) or a garbage can raider. Raccoons do get into trash looking for rotten things to eat.
I know in Japan (I guess the Netherlands too) the stereotype is a creature known for washing, like the Sarnio raccoon character Landry.
