I contemplated this contest for a while before deciding what to do with my entry. My mom is a breast cancer survivor, so I wanted to make it mean something to me. Somehow, the sketch looked better to me than a finished piece, maybe due to the nature of the theme.
My mom, for those of you interested, did not have to have a total mastectomy as pictured here. She had a lump removed and did radiation therapy and as far as the doctors can tell it's gone. Even so, it's not something you take lightly. I love my mom dearly, and I gained a lot of respect for her after the way she handled the whole ordeal. She's a strong lady. Cancer was just something that had to be dealt with so she could get on with things. She's an amazing woman.
So here's to all the amazing women in the world: we're with you, working for a cure.

The best part of the whole thing was how her students handled it... Each advising group got together and decorated a pink flamingo for her, and then they all came to our house and put them in our lawn. They were her guardian flamingos. They're currently guarding outside her office at the school.
