They're kind of mid-range maintenance. So, I'd say less than a dog, but there are some particular things you need to know, and they do pretty much need daily handling. The key to a friendly hedgehog is a well-socialized one. If you're interested, definitely to some research. They have particular needs when it comes to diet, temperature requirements, etc. Not the right pet for everyone, and not something you'd want to jump into without knowing what you're doing. Our website covers the basics: http://www.volcanoviewhedgehogs.com.....ehog-care.html
They're also a bit on the pricy side compared to other small animals, because they're exotics and they're not reliable or prolific breeders, and the initial cost of supplies isn't exactly cheap - though there are a lot of great, inexpensive alternatives, especially if you're handy with DIY type projects.
Where are you located? We're in Port Orchard, WA. Anyway, feel free to ask me any questions if you decide you might want one! :D We'll be starting to breed in December. Our breeder-mentor has babies available every few weeks.

Oh cool. XD Yeah, definitely let me know if you decide to venture into the realm of hedgie ownership. Our breeder is really the only one I would suggest in the greater Seattle area. (And us, once we get started - but that's me being biased, lol.) There are a few breeders in the area that are kind of questionable, including another one in PO and another one in Tacoma. I'd love to help you get started if/when you want to get one!
