my reaction to someone super talented and amazing saying this
"I guess I don't think any of my art is really print-worthy, or something someone would want up on a wall"
you know who you are

i can't stand artists that do/say crap like that either :l there's modesty, but then there's just being a dick about it. everyone knows how good they are.

I think the artist she's referring to said it in all honesty, and was not being a dick about it.

it's hard to tell nowadays for me.. i actually ran into a bunch of "great artists" that constantly whined about being bad or not good, and it just kind of drives on one's nerves after a few months of it from the same people

I don't know any artists who say it to be a dick about it! I think most artists are really hard on themselves. Those of us who look up to them or admire the ease they wield their skills or talents might feel like my drawing but I don't think anyone (myself included) is out to be a dick when we are low on our art.

well, i bow out to this then, i just had bad experiences with people acting like this, never ment to sound like i was targeting every artist, and i am sorry for such

I understand it can be hard to stomach. It can get old for sure! But I just personally haven't run into anyone who does it to be a butt. I think the sad thing is, when we artists say that stuff, we believe it whole-heartedly. :(

oh, i believe that you guys believe it whole-heartedly, and i'll fight to the dawn of the new age to tell all of you that you are great.. but when you try that with people, that constantly deny it.. but then have someone else come by and say it once and the person just flips out in joy about it.. it becomes a bitter thorn in the side.. having it done multiple times to oneself

That's rough. Ultimately the only time we're really going to believe we're any good as artists is just when we can have faith and believe in ourselves and like what we do. Naturally, we are going to be thrilled if someone we really like or admire a lot for their own skill (or whyever) says we're great at art. I've definitely had that experience! As a non-artist fan it's gotta be extra frustrating for you. I wouldn't take it personally though...in the future if someone turns down a compliment, just tell them then move on without comment. Trying to convince them won't work if they're not open to it!

in truth, i am an artist and all that, but it is still all the frustrating mainly because it WAS close friends to me or that i assumed, but i will take your words into account, it isn't good to take a lot of things personally(though many people do x.x)
