It's just a color halftone! You can take any gradient in photoshop, pull it into a new document, then convert the color profile to B/W, then to BITMAP. When you convert to bitmap, there's a number of ways you can let photoshop represent gradients/shading with only black and white/hard cut pixels. Just play around with some options! :3
