This is Zoidberg, i picked him up at the BTS show on sunday. I thought he was a snail at first till a saw a little red leg waving at me.

I'm no expert, but as I understand it, if you hold it so that you can see the undersides of its legs (which is easier said than done, as I found out), the females will have some small dark dots or holes in one of the back pairs. They're called gonopores, and I think they're where the sperms go.

Yeah, as I understand it males have nothing on their legs. Of course, as you've probably already realized by now, if there's one things hermit crabs don't like, it's having their undersides examined...

Well he/she seems very active but yes as soon as it relises its upside down it retreats into the shell.

You can fool it by sort of holding it right-side-up over your head and looking up under it that way. That was how I had to do it. Just make sure it hasn't been playing around in any water recently, or you will dribble horrible shell-water in your eye. Not that I know anything about that.

Hermits crabs, the most social hermits of the seven seas ^^. I am not completly sure, but when it comes to hermit crabs I have read that either only the boys or only the girls have something life a thick tuff of hair on there claws. Im not sure how true that is though.
