It's very easy to be condescending towards someone dealing with disabilities without really intending to. It's worth to keep in mind that while "differently abled" is a silly euphemism, the logic behind it is sound.
More often than not, you're not unable to do something, you may need different tools, or do it in a different way, but you CAN do it, sometimes even things you think would be impossible by definition (just count the number of deaf musicians or blind artists....)

If you grew up in a family as big as mine was, getting the dishes done was in fact a very heroic feat. <=) One of my first employers was a paraplegic, but he ran three businesses, was starting on a fourth when I moved on to my next career, raised two children single-handedly and in general let nothing stop him. Every time I see the word "disabled" I think of him.
