I thought it looked pretty textured, ha ha. Yeah, smoother paper is better in my opinion. I use plain old computer paper myself. It bleeds into the picture, so it's really hard at first, but once you get used to the paper and to colouring in general, you start to learn where it's going to bleed, and get a feel for its patterns.
